2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Transmission out at 30K!!!!
Recently took my 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara in for service (Engine Light on) and was told that my transmission was shot (30K miles)! Dealer said that my winch was not allowing "cool air" to reach transmission. What do u guys think? BTW they did replace my transmission but warned me to install another transmission cooler (Jeep has one already) or face the consequenses. Doesnt seem right to me being that many jeeps have winches installed.

Also does anyone know why Jeeps get such crappy mileage? Are there any mods that can help with this issue?

Umm...was there any problem driving into the shop with the transmission? How did they know it was shot?? Was it not shifting correctly when you were driving? I'm confused on how a check engine light told them the tranny was shot?? What did they say was wrong with it?

Was driving fine as far as I could tell. It was all very strange actually. They said "codes" led them to check transmission and when they dropped transmission pan, it was filled with metal indicating wear on my transmission. They sent photos to Chrysler/Jeep corporate who ultimately released a new transmission to the dealer.

They only told me that they suspected that my winch was not allowing enough airflow to transmission (Again this is weired to me!). Just checking to see if anyone has heard of such a thing.

Its a "01" with 30K miles ? Not driving it enough, could do a lot of damage. How often did you drive it ? I guess thats a little over 200 miles a month, I can't see the winch blocking enough air from the xsmn cooler, over that low amount of driving. What kind of miles are the 30k,light off-road,heavy off-road, or extreme off-road?
