2.5 timing chain problem

hello all im pretty new to jeeps but i have a 97 jeep wrangler 2.5 and i just rebuilt the engine which cool and all but the problem is I'm trying to install the timing chain/gears back on the engine and am not sure if I'm supposed to do the count the gears or just line up the dots, I was not the one that tore down the engine so im just kinda guessing here any help, pictures even engine codes on weather this engine is actually from a 97 or 96 would help out greatly.

Line it up dot to dot thats how my reman engine was when I bought it

It would be a 97.... they didn't have a 96 model year. Any Jeep with a date stamp in 96 is a 97 model year

figured out what it was had to use some air fittings an a piece off my compression tester to do this but the exhaust port valve was bent on the first cylinder. I'm guessing when i did the valve cleaning they those two got swapped around. If anyone want/needs pics of the tool i can throw them up on here
