AEV Rear Bumper...Opinions wanted
 
I've got a line on an AEV Rear Bumper for a great deal. I was only going to go with the front tubeless, but at this price, I almost feel like I have to jump on it.

Anyone have any issues, likes, dislikes, want to talk me out of it?

IMO AEV shi-, er, stuff is overpriced but if you got a good deal on it then go for it. For me it would depend on how good a deal. 50% off is good to me for AEV shi-, er, stuff...

It's almost exactly 50% off on a takeoff from an MW3.

It's not overpriced despite what 'AEV-haters' love to pontificate. Their bumpers/tire carriers are in the same ballpark as Expedition One or any other good quality rear bumper/tire carrier that swings with the door.

It all depends on what you're after. So, that said, at half price, GET IT, IMHO. :thumb:

If you want to add the tire carrier at some point, you'll need to buy a passenger side 'corner water container' with the hole for the carrier to mount to the frame.

I'd go for it. You can add the tire carrier later of you'd like and half off isn't something you'll ever find anywhere else

Just the bumper or is it a tire carrier too? Sorry, don't know what is equipped with the MW edition.

Is this the bumper? If so, don't really care for the looks of it but if it is like $300 than can't beat it.

Thanks. Yes, AEV now sell a COD edition Tire Carrier that comes with the corner for $50 than just the carrier.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking, but it threw me for a loop since I hadn't planned on it with my list of never ending mods. Just part of owning a Jeep. :)

That's the one. I like it. But mostly because I know it is a match to the front I want. The tire carrier I would have to buy if I want it. Thanks.

I would say get it then. Even a cheaper Rugged Ridge rear bumper is like $600 new so half off anything is a steal. As much as I dislike AEV, even I wouldn't pass the deal, even if it is to flip it to an AEV fan for a little markup.:whistling:

Well I am definitely surrounded by AEV fanboys on this forum but I believe the AEV lifts and the "premium" front bumper is over priced. For the same amount of money for an AEV lift, you can get a more complete lift for the same or maybe even a few hundred less. As for the front bumper's aren't they like over $1,000? For $600-$700 I can get a custom made to order JCR Off-road or a Poison Spyder. Granted not everyone likes the look of PSC, JCR or other custom manufacturer's. If AEV wasn't, IMO priced so high, I wouldn't have so much beef.

As for the fanboys that spout AEV as end all be all, not saying you are one of them Cormac, they grind my gears.

I just did. Thanks all. I basically just dollar cost averaged the entire bumper set down and feel a bit better about paying what I have to pay for the front (that is with the caveat that rear bumper wasn't high on the list previously).

Ha ha...yeah, dropped your bumper nut by 1/4. If you were looking at $1K/$1K for front/rear, you're now at $750/$750.

Pretty sweet, even if you hadn't originally factored in the rear. :)

:rofl: Why do you care? :D I say that jokingly, but I guess half serious, too - as serious as one can be on an internet forum. LOL. You're doing the exact same thing as the "AEV fanboys", but from the other end of the spectrum. :whistling:

I've met plenty of other guys running (fill in the blank ... PSC, Clayton, Rock Krawler, and, yes, AEV, too ;)...) that thought their shi-, er, I mean, 'stuff' didn't stink. They think they're "hardcore" and carry an attitude to go with it. Mention those 3 little letters "A E V", though, and some people lose their minds. The latter point is not directed at you, just an observation. And, that's certainly not all people... I think most people don't care.

But, honestly, I hear what you're saying'-:thumb:

But, to bring this back on topic: AEV IS the end-all-be-all ..... :flipoff: - well .... For me .... On my 'particular' rig ... For the way "I" use it ... Currently. ;)

x3...3.5 or 4.5 premium AEV kit...dual rate coils,specificly tuned shocks, high steer conversion and dampner , ProCal, Jack base, frnt drop brackets, track bar tower that raises the rear for superior handling...1,700 thats very resonable. Are you saying that a more complete kit has new upper/lower arms...that are really not needed for 80% of the population.

Rock Krawler's coils are progressive as well. In lieu of brackets the RK kit comes with control arms, front trac bar, rear trac bar drop bracket, brake lines, quick disconnects....The AEV doesn't have LCA's, doesn't have a front trac bar, no brake lines, no disconnects and the specificly tuned shocks are a joke. They are just bilstiens but charge a premium cause they are "AEV tuned":nonono:.

IMO the Rock Kralwer 3.5" Flex system is superior to the AEV 3.5" system and is only $1,379 MSRP. Add a set of bilstien 5100's and you are at close to $1700, maybe a shade under.

I am not a "brand snob" either. I would happily run Rock Kralwer, Teraflex, or Synergy Suspension. I run Teraflex but it is not the end all to me.

Really OT here BUT

RK has "progressive" read dual rate springs in front only. Rear are plain linear single rate. AEV uses rear track bar to front and new rear track bar. You may dismiss frequency tuned springs and custom valved Bilsteins as a joke to you but they involve engineering and testing time with AEV and Bilstein engineers and they are definitely more expensive in limited number runs then off the shelf stock Bilstein 5100s.


RK or Teraflex or Rancho or Superlift or (insert name here) suspension may be a better choice for you or (insert name here) but hey, my AEV bumper, suspension, (insert part here), may be a better choice for my and (insert name here) uses.
