h13 white lights

I was thinking of upgrading my headlamp bulbs to the silverstar white light bulbs. Only thing I dont like is that the life of them are short, at least according to packaging. Just wondering if anyone has them & how long have they lasted for you?

flyinion 04-06-2012 03:08 AM

Try the Phillips Xtreme Power 80+ bulbs. I've had the silverstars in the past on another vehicle and thought they were ok (but I don't really know much about lighting). I know that Hilldweller who seems to be the resident lighting expert around here does not like them and recommends the Phillips instead.

Go with the Phillips if this is the only headlight improvement you plan on. I found them to be a big improvement over stock. I now have "decent" headlights.

Now if you plant to spend some $$$, and want the very best, then check out the work ''Hilldweller" did and kindly posted. He researched just about everything and his findings are well worth reading.

I should add, I put yellow film covers on my fogs and this has worked out GREAT. If your in an area where you get lots of snow fog and rain, yellow works.

Do not get silverstar. Many have tried only to replace them with the Phillips Xtreme Power 80+ bulbs. These are the best direct replacements out there without doing a complete headlight upgrade.

TheNatePatrick 04-06-2012 06:16 AM

Do they sell foglight replacement bulbs as well?

Raziel 04-06-2012 10:46 AM

All righty then! I would have to check his stuff out. How long do those bulbs last. At least for you guys/girls that have used them>? That was one of my concerns with the silverstar. They have a short life span. I know they are brighter & that's the reason.

Thanks for the info!!!

rics1997 04-06-2012 10:59 AM

I haven't had them real long, 1 1/2 years, but the are brighter then Silverstar.

Who has the best price on these Philips extreme Power bulbs, does anybody have a Part Number? And are they worth the money effort?

silverstar h13

:dance:hi, i had a set silverstars on my last 07jk with no problems, but, but what do u say, they were only a little brighter than the factory h13, not sure if i shall get them for my 2012jk...:rolleyes:

Raziel 04-07-2012 04:23 PM

I really dont want to change bulbs every year or 2 if that's how long they last. But I know I won't get the same results as you. But I like to know a certain time line of life out of the bulbs from people who have used them! A year and half you had them & still going, that's kosher! I might get them. Still haven't had a chance to ride up on Hill findings. I'm trying to finish up at work right now as I type this, LoL!

TheNatePatrick 04-08-2012 02:09 PM

Total newb question, sorry folks:

Do the aforementioned Phillips lights also coincide with replacing the fog lamps, or are those a different type of bulb entirely?

Raziel 04-08-2012 10:32 PM

Fog bulbs are different ones.

Yep they do. All H13/9008 (European/US designation) bulbs should be the exact same.

Np, huh so I just noticed something weird. I tried to go look up the fitting guide at the Philips website to show you it fits (didn't have it saved so was googling it) and I can't even find a valid automotive lighting site for Philips for the US anymore. I wonder if they've bailed on the US? It was just a couple months ago that I was at their site looking. I even used it to find out where to buy them locally.

VaderJK12 04-09-2012 05:07 PM

I've been searching auto parts stores and I can not find those Philips X-treme bulbs. Besides Amazon, where else do you buy them?

Well, when their website was working for US automotive lighting, Philips sent me to a chain called Carquest.

Preston777 04-09-2012 08:23 PM

What about H4 bulbs? arent they usually a higher wattage than the H13 bulbs?
i gotta get some new bulbs to and have heard H4's are brighter than the H13's and only need a wiring adapter

You have to change out the lens also. The bulb won't clip into a H13 lens. Wish it was that easy but Quadratec has a fairly reasonable lens replacement. And it is a lot better lens then the stock plastic lens

would that kit be brighter than just the philips bulbs in the stock housing?

and btw check your pm's:dance:

Raziel 04-10-2012 04:44 PM

I was looking at it yesterday & notice when it was trying to show me local stores that have it. I was like in europe  I'm not in that country. You ask for my zip & I gave it & to another country I go, WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! :D

So far, advance, Walmart, & I believe bennett doesn't carry them. I would have to try car quest & napa to see if they do.

If you want the excellent brightness of H4's, go to Susquehanna MotorSports - High Performance Vehicle Lighting and Competition Accessories get the phone # and call them, the harness that they built and the H4 kit that they sell is far superior to the kit sold at Q-tec.....there are literally a ton of members that have upgraded to this kit....easy install too....:thumb: They build and sell a ton of these, they'll know exactly what you need for your JK...........

If you would like to read about it and how good the upgrade is.......http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/ral...all-73538.html

<b>Philips <font color="red">Xtreme Power</font> H13 / 9008 65/55W</b> (TWO PACK)

edmo 08-06-2012 01:04 PM

Best price on Phillips is amazon, roughly 32 bucks. Pep boys carries them for 49 bucks a pair. Worth the wait at amazon. Headlights are brighter, but one thing I noticed is that when I leveled the front of my jku range and brightness increased, farther range.

Hilldweller 08-06-2012 02:43 PM

Silverstars aren't "brighter". They're filtered to be a different color. They'd be brighter without that filter... ...and the filter causes glare... ...which looks bright.
They're a lie; don't buy them.

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/the...ml#post2657299

The Phillips Xtreme Power bulbs have a tighter build, better focus, better materials. They also use a little filter to make the color change but the filter isn't over the focal point of the bulb and there is no loss of light.

Their lifespan depends on the ammount of juice running to them, vibrations, temperature. It shouldn't influence your purchase though.

Don't expect miracles, btw. You'll still have bad stock wiring and bad stock reflectors. There's only so much a better bulb can do.
