Nice place!

I heard I5 was closed for awhile due to global warming.

We're already 15 inches over our annual snow fall average and not even half way through the season.
They had an avalanche yesterday on one of the passes I cross for work, it's the first avalanche I've ever heard of on that mountain.

4point 01-28-2008 04:48 PM

Yeah, they close I5 because they don't plow it. I80 was closed all last night too, but because they actually had a blizzard. :D

SPDSNYPR 01-28-2008 06:06 PM

I was out at the range today in a t-shirt and jeans. It was about 65-70 ish (just like yesterday). Didn't take any pics, though. If this is global warming - I'm all for it!

Scoob 01-28-2008 06:41 PM

Yup, globel warming.

Nebraska in late January. Little to no snow on the ground. It was 52 and rained today.

just fyi its called global climate change, it will make some places much much hotter and some palces much much colder, it all has to do with the flow of the oceans, its projected the average temp in europ will drop by 15 degress

just so u know we have lost more than 1/4 of the ice caps and are losing at an even faster rate now

but then agian i cant really call myself an environmentalist seeing as i drive a jeep

Environmenalism according to MW is: advocacy of the preservation, restoration, or improvement of the natural environment;

So even though you drive a jeep you can help. You don't need to be a "tree hugger" to do this. Saving trails, trail clean-ups etc .....

The education system has warped our kids to believe otherwise. Hell, even the NRA are environmentalist.

debruins 01-28-2008 07:34 PM

so i am a major environmentalist, just a littel hypocritical at times haha

And just so you know, it's all BS! The only thing constant about the Earths climate over the last 4.5 billion years has been constant change. There is no one point from which to measure the climate, so to assume we are having any significant impact on the fact that the temps have risen or fallen 1 or 2 degrees over the last 100 years is asinine. I'm just saying..:zap:

Scoob 01-28-2008 07:58 PM

Yeh, 99% of all the earth's scientest are wrong:rolleyes:

However I dont think it matters really what we do. When you have so many countries with ZERO pollution control plans. Like Mexico, China and Russia.

debruins 01-28-2008 08:00 PM

mostly CHINA
there is no way to get them to stop either, they have so much coal they can use for so cheap so they're gonna keep on using it no matter what anyone says or does

ccain 01-28-2008 08:25 PM

Those communist, coal burning bastards!

Thank god we don't pollute the atmosphere here in the good old US!

Oh and "Second Hand Smoke".... Don't forget that!

debruins 01-28-2008 08:39 PM

per capita we are actually rated like 8th or 9th or somewhere like that iirc

Scoob, when I was a kid 99% of the scientists said we were going into another ice age and Cali was going to slide into the ocean from "the big one".

debruins 01-28-2008 09:18 PM

wea re going to go into antoher ice age, and it wil slide in, just nto int he near future!

Yeah. What he said..... I think?!?

but who knows if it is really our fault.

orange05tj 01-28-2008 09:35 PM

After Debruins uses spell check, the comp will explode and contribute to global warming

Yeah - you can back up that 99% of scientists agree with the global warming theory.

ccain 01-28-2008 10:28 PM

Oh Geez, you know.... Global Warming is such a freakin' joke!
The real story is that the earths climate is cyclic.
If "ice age" is used to refer to long, generally cool, intervals during which glaciers advance and retreat, we are still in one today. Our modern climate represents a very short, warm period between glacial advances.

Yeah, what he said.

dwdrums801 01-28-2008 11:01 PM

im all for global warming! I would love to have my top down all year round and jet skiing every day of december!

MOz 01-29-2008 07:21 AM

The amount of BS concerning global warming has reached an all time high. Al Gore - the self proclaimed "inventor of the internet" get's a Nobel prize for doing whatl? Meanwhile, his plantation consumes enough energy on a daily basis to power a small village.

For the longest time, ignorant scientists, scholars, and religous figures all thought the world was flat.... The difference today: back then if you disagreed you most likely went to jail or were killed.

I find it incredibly coincidental that Dupont's patent for refrigerant runs out during all of this mess. That's a company that has enough power to influence laws and foreign policy. It's actually a federal offense to posses a can of R12. I remember we use to have boxes of that stuff laying all around around the garage. But feel free to buy their new product for your car...it's ok... for now. Wait another 10-15 years for that patent to expire and they will prohibit that too.

The fact is there is more we don't know about weather than what we do know. I think the prima donna scientists need to humble themselves and put their egos and external financing requirements away. Just think about what happens when some monster volcano blows out tens of thousands of tons of "natural pollutants" into the atmosphere in just a few minutes, then days. Now there's a major contributor to global weather. Anyone remember when Mt. St Helens blew off? We felt the effects here on the east coast. Now multiply that by the dozen or so active volcanos around the world.... Could there be a correlation? Oh, that old theory probably doesn't get the funding approved...They need to make up something more controversial.

There's a difference between scientific fact and fiction. Facts have been validated (multiple times by multiple unbiased sources) I have yet to see a validation of the Global Warming Theory. There's a lot of data that has been postulated, but there has not been a validation process. It's all circumstantial....and it's all inflammatory.

What really bothers me, is that they have started teaching this crap in the public schools..."Global warming is real..and the world is flat Billy,"

kg4kpg 01-29-2008 07:44 AM

Don't worry guys, a gamma ray burst is going to burn away the atmosphere then a 5 mile wide asteroid is going to blow us all up anyway. Should make for a pretty warm day.

4point 01-29-2008 10:57 AM

This is an example of scientific fact.
I have a good friend who goes out every year to do a census on wildlife. Basically they go out and count the deer herds. He's been doing it for decades, he's now 74. He's a hunter also so he can spot deer. He's lived in this area for 56 years and knows the land very well. Anyway he goes out with Fish & Game to do these counts. He told me that for the last 15+- years he's seen an influx of tree huggers/bunny huggers who are very educated (University grads) filling the positions at Fish & Game. They will go out to sites he has selected to the most deer possible for an more accurate census. They both sit there with their tablets and count deer for days. He says the one problem is that these individuals cant SEE the deer. His counts are always 60% higher than theirs. They always second guess his counts, so he tries to point out the deer that are hidden. You know the ones that aren't just standing in the middle of a clearing waving at them. These people are taught in school that all species are declining due to over hunting and mans effect on on our environment. Deer in our area are like eastern white tail, they have adapted very well to us humans.
This is why our scientific data is flawed.

JCS05Rubi 01-29-2008 11:58 AM

All I got to say is, mother nature is an incredible thing, and if we were really doing that much harm to the environment, we would no longer exist. Period. Mother nature would find a way to make us extinct, and there isn't anything we can do about it. I agree we should work on cleaning up our pollution etc., but all this global warming crap really chaps my arse. At one point in time, Iceland was ice, and greenland was green. Look at it now..

Weather is cyclical, and we have only been recording temperature for what, 150 years out of like 4.5 billion? Aren't these the same scientists that said we'd be in an ice age 10 years ago?

I don't know, I am not a scientist, but I am anything but convinced. Seems like a good way for someone to make a lot of money, and regain some political power without changing anything themselves..

stinger124 01-29-2008 12:07 PM

Temps have been up and down here in Texas.. 30 one day, 75 the next day... 2o degrees one night, 55 the next. Temp was like 70 degrees last night at 10:00.. Tonight temps are susposed to get down to 20..
We are in a drought right now, so we would welcome any snow or rain..
Temps are really crazy here ..
