wraparound windjammer with front of freedom top

will this work?

can i use the front two pieces of my freedom top and the deck cover windjammer combo?

keller25 04-08-2012 03:37 PM

Now that is an interesting question! Never thought of that. Good idea

killerbee812 04-08-2012 03:51 PM

I have the nonwraparound windjammer and it will work without door surrounds. I think the wraparound mounts to the door surrounds, so i gotta think the panels will not work with door surrounds on.

lee indy 04-08-2012 04:49 PM

aww that s another good point. the wrap probably wont work.

killerbee812 04-08-2012 05:26 PM

As a matter of fact i have mine setup like this today. Notice the gap where the door surrounds go. Not a big deal you donít get much wind though that area. And when i want to take the tops off i think they are much faster to remove then the bikini. I just put them under the duster.

Took some quick pictures. Sorry about the messy garage.

What I did for that gap and it helped greatly for rain too was to go in the plumbing department at Lowes and get that black(actually dark grey) water pipe insulation. The stuff that looks like those pool noodles. Cut to length and put in gap. I used velcro straps to secure them to the roll bar

killerbee812 04-08-2012 06:19 PM

Great idea Rics!!:thumb:

Haha combine this with your rear window steel pipe and your Jeep is a Lowes on wheels.

Got any pictures of this? You have me curious.

Are you talking about my garage or the windjammer?

Lol.... The windjammer.

killerbee812 04-08-2012 07:03 PM

Oh yeah i have the seats back all the way. It wouldnt be so bad if not for these dang angles head rests, but fits me ok. I'm only 5'10 so no giant.

Vin 04-08-2012 11:30 PM

It won't work with the Wraparound Windjammer. You need the door surrounds on for the Wraparound Windjammer. With the door surrounds on, you can't use the Freedom Top panels.

looks like this is what im doing. what windjammer did you order? which part number?

killerbee812 04-10-2012 05:03 AM

Mine is the Bestop 80031

lee indy 04-10-2012 05:50 AM

this means i need a tail gate bar too. damn this is getting more spendy than i want.

Jeeplover1 04-10-2012 05:53 AM

Ya i gotta buy one too.. 50+ on ebay

lee indy 04-10-2012 07:22 AM

yeah im gonna bail on this idea for awhile.

rics1997 04-11-2012 09:50 AM

Turned cold so I didn't want to install my windows again so added the windjammer back on. It got a little wrinkled in storage because it fell over but the seats should held stretch it back out, lol

One thing about having the Safari top on instead of the bikini is that I can leave the Windjammer a little more lose and move the straps back a little. Now the seat are not uncomfortable like it was with the bikini on. Much better feel this way. I don't mind the Windjammer with this set up. Huge difference

Here was the pic of the noodle between the roll bar and the door surround to cut air flow between that area and helps blowing rain from getting in around the door surrounds

Pic of just installed windjammer with safari top

rics1997 04-11-2012 09:56 AM

Now the top corner straps of the windjammer normally goes over the top roll bar/sound bar but to get it more loose so to get the seat further back I put it on the side roll bar. I got about 5 to 6 extra inches of seat room

rics1997 04-11-2012 06:16 PM

Would like to find some side windows that someone took off because of scratches/damage/ or even to replace with tinted windows so I can cut them up and make wraps to hook into the door surrounds and wrap around to the roll bar. Sew on straps to tie them off to the roll bar top and bottom.

I am surprised no company has made these.

lee indy 04-11-2012 09:28 PM

Looks like maybe a top. That covers 2 seats would work better with the hammer deck cover

Jeeplover1 04-11-2012 09:36 PM

I run a safari top with mine.. It goes acroos the back two seats

MaudieHilli 04-11-2012 09:48 PM

the wrap probably wont work.

Killerbee812, Have you driven with your wraparound windjammer and just the front of the freedom top on? Just wondering if that is safe. I was not sure if you could use the front without the back and will stay securely on? I love the look of the duster and want to do something easy for the summer. But also worried about rain getting inside. Thanks for the pics!

killerbee812 04-27-2012 03:49 AM

Mine is not the wrap around. Mine is the regular windjammer. The wraparound will require door surrounds, and you can’t put the freedom tops on with door surrounds. Yes i drive mine every day. You can have just the freedom tops installed. Just make sure your flip the plastic piece up in the back per the owner’s manual.

lee indy 04-27-2012 06:03 AM

^^ id ditn know that. never noticed a problem

killerbee812 04-28-2012 06:18 AM

I gives the screw something to hold. If not used there is not much in that area and will bow the panel if screwed to tight.

Hi guys im new to the Forum, just Killerbee did you get the soundbar cap for the rain issue , i plan on running a setup on my jk like yours. also to any one else planning this also i found that using the yoga rollers with a small cut so it could be flush against the roll bar made it near water tight on the sides, ill post picks when its rigged up.

Again i think some are confused. You can not run the freedom top with the wrap around windjammer because the door surrounds need to be installed. And you cant have the door surounds on with the freedom tops. I run the standard wind jammer along with the freedom tops. Tis set up is not water tight so i only run it in nice weather. So no i do not have the sound bar cap.

I am anxious to see this because I am going to use this set up. And am concerned about rain getting in since I will be running it all summer in the Chicago area.
