Hoist Ideas

Hey all, was just wondering if anyone had some good specs on a hoist for a jk wrangler unlimited. Can't seem to find anywhere in Australia that can supply what I am exactly looking for.

Engine hoist? Hardtop hoist?

Mathius 04-09-2012 07:04 AM

Oh sorry bloke, yeah hoist for the hardtop, something that is not going to swing is what I'm after.

i used four eye bolts and 4 ratchet straps. the 2door top only weighs 90 lbs and the 4 door isnt much more than that.

Mathius 04-09-2012 07:31 AM

It must take a little time, is it something you can do yourself? I guess better to take little time then not doing at all lol.

less than 5 min on or off.

i dont use the click type i use the slide type. takes me about 2 min to lower it because i have to lower all 4 corners evenly but then i just slide it into place and put the bolts in. stupid easy

:D Checkout a RACOR, I don't know how much you would pay in Australia, but here, they're about $100 bucks--

It'll hold up to 150 lbs and is a one man job--can't beatem

Here's a pic of mine holding boats,, but it'll hod the hardtop up for however long you want to storeit--if you have a garage !

Also you could go to Quadratec.com and look at the Harken Hoist. There is a link in the information area to the instruction manual that lists all of the parts. You should be able to source every part listed locally, one or two items may need to be ordered, the rope lock for instance. I'd check a good marine store, most of the pulleys and what not are just rigging pieces.

my set up was 22 dollars

Mathius 04-10-2012 02:33 PM

Ace Hdware/Lowes/Target, they all have different "VINYL" covered "J" hooks, so just get what you need--mine are "RED" Vinyl "J" hooks with 3/8's threaded ends and that works with my Hardtop Rack !
