Cleghorn F up

My Dad, Brother and I went out to cleghorn last saturday , great day, except for the four kids in the 2wd ford F-150 in front of me, got stuck at this spot for about an hour and a half, in front of his pass tire is a giant boulder, indy front end susp and open diff in the back equals long wait, he got stuck 3 more times, on a down hill!
oh well at least we were on the trail.

I H8RDS 04-09-2012 05:26 PM

:nonono: Lord. I would of had to pass him or wheel over him :D

BeantownR6 04-09-2012 05:27 PM

look like you could squeeze by in the left over that rock lol.

91badass 04-09-2012 05:33 PM

Lol... ya I was all over that, but behind that rock in the middle was a big drop and I would of slammed into him.

Came across this one on the other side of the lake on 2N17x. Same thing, IFS stepping in holes in places where he maybe shouldn't be. Even the easy trails can ruin someone's day. But we were able to drag him out out there and back on his wheels.

Heck, I never hate on someone on the trail. A few years ago I was the guy in a 2wd thinking I was cool.

I was up cleghorn this last Sunday were I met this two guys with quite a story. Turns out, last Saturday afternoon they were wheeling (son driving a Toyota, dad driving his built Toyota and an fj40). His dad was on two wheels and they tried spotting him so that he wouldn't roll, long story short he flopped his cab into a tree. While they were trying to figure out how to flip it back, the battery catches fire igniting the fuel spilling on the engine. I wish I had pictures but the fire department close that extra credit line until they got the truck out.

One side note, the guy I went with bailed on me a little bit less then half way up, so I ended up doing it alone.

What model of Toyota was it that rolled? What was he doing? Scary stuff! I hope nobody got hurt.

From what I remember it was between 80-82 and everyone was OK. From what one of the guys told me they had that toy with the works, seletables, marlin transfer case, etc. Sad to see the pics but they were hopeful for a rebuild with a v8

If youre going up the hill. He rode it on the left side. He got sideways to where his truck jumped and all it took was a little pocket of air to throw him over.

So bad line and maybe a little too fast?

pluke the 2 04-11-2012 01:06 PM

Not a bad line. He floored it when he got sideways and those are top heavy.

They blocked off some of the tough stuff. There was one section that alot of people had not been on since the storms, some nice 3 wheel action.

So how do I avoid this in my JKUR I'm planning on heading up to Cleghorn myself soon? Recommend using 4WL and rear lockers and crawling up?

I know exactly where this is I've been up it many times on a dirt bike when I used to ride there.

My advice as a somewhat noob is to just make sure you go with others that have run the trail before and LET THEM GO FIRST. Follow their line, speed, etc. Don't be afraid to ask questions and scream in fear that you need a spot. That's what I do! :whistling:

Seriously though, I've done Cleghorn a few times and feel it is a real fun trail, but not that hard. It does have some hard spots, but the best thing about it is every obstacle has a bypass. Many also have easy and hard routes.

I've watched a lot of the roll over videos on youtube to try to figure out what they were doing wrong so I don't repeat it. Many times it was simply that they were going too fast or doing something else stupid.

This is one of my favorite examples of doing something stupid:

CLASSIC.

And for the record, nobody should be trail blazing over shrubbery. It's disrespectful (I don't care where you're at) and why a lot of our wheeling locations get shut down.

^ Agree no need to run over bushes there are plenty of trails for one and the other even in my dirt bike days I always wanted to know what was on the other side of a hill. IMO, he got what he deserved.

Respect the land. It's not a tall order.

I like the part when they stand there and tell each other that the lame brain in the Jeep really knows how to drive. These guys have stupid written all over them, for the way they drive and the way they trash the vegetation. These are the kind of off road people that ruin it for the rest of us.

I love the commentary at the end: "there's no bottom! ..Lucky you didn't land in a sink hole."

Then when they try to roll him onto his wheels, they roll him FURTHER into the ditch...

I agree that videos like this ruin our reputation. People will think were a bunch of reckless idiots with no regard for the environment.
