My 95 YJ has a rubber type mat under the engine that attaches to the frame and the bottom of the rad shrowd. I it has become unattached in front and is flopping around. Can I take this off? Does anyone know what it is for? Is it just a splash guard? I do live in the rainforest of Vancouver so if it is for water I may need to replace it. I can't seem to find any online - any ideas?

You should replace it, The local tractor supply store has some rubber media that could work.

I had a '93 wrangler that had the same thing. it does help as a splash guard, but i think the actual reason for it is to let the fan create more of a vortex and help in keeping the engine running cooler. i tore mine on a tree stump and removed it. didnt seem to matter much as far as engine temp, but it did make a difference on the next water hole that i hit too hard...lol.

OK - sounds like I should replaces it - especially in Vancouvers wet ie. muddy climate! I called the jeep dealer and they said the part has been discontinued so I will be making my own I guess. Thanks guys.
