Winches. What are you running?

What kind of winches are you guys running? What do you like/dislike about them? I probably won't get out more than 10/15 times a year to wheel and I don't think investing a lot of money into a Warn is going to be the best option for me, so I started looking at Mile Marker? Are there any companies to steer clear from? Anything other than Warn up to par with Warn? Thanks!

Why do you say that?

Just because I offered another solution, merely saying that if you use a function of the forum you can find more results from previous discussions on the same question that has been asked several times before.

I also use a Warn XD9000i. I love it. Great product, great company, and readily available parts should I have a problem with it.

I would say however that I use mine more than the average wheeler. So I wanted something I knew was going to stand up to the use.

look at a tmaxx....a lot of bang for your buck, if ya don't want to fork over the dough for a warn. i personally would shy away from mile markers. i've heard too many stories about them crappin out quick. my .02 anyway......

my buddy has a 10,000 lb mile marker on his cherokee and it has been put through the wringer. at one point when he flopped he literally had the whole rig pivoting up on the front driver side wheel. (got pictures!) so i would say for as little as you'd be using it, go for the mile marker.
I myself have a ramsey 8000 lb winch and it does just fine for pulling my little wrangler out when needed, plus parts are easy to come by, if needed, since the ramsey plant is right down the road from my place.

I probably wont use a winch much either, but wanted one just in case. I just bought a Smittybilt 8K Lbs winch for $299. I admit it's not a Warn, but you can't beat the price. I got it at 4wheel parts.

I like to look at it like this. Having a winch is better than not having a winch no matter what brand it is. You always have to look at how you are using it and how often. If you buy a cheap winch and use it once in 5 years then it was worth it. But for wheeling like we do I might use my winch 4 or 5 times in one trail depending on who is with us. I needed something that would stand up to repeated abuse. My Warn has done that for me.

i have a 12.000 lbs cheap china winch. it works very good for me.

I run a Warn M8000
Probably have around 75 pulls on it in the last 7 years
pulled it apart and re greased the planetary gears last week,
also have a new synthetic line for it. my cable was frayed and had a kink in it.

I'm fond of the MileMarker PE8000

$399.99 from Quadratec.

smitty built ive abused the hell out of this thing ......trying to break this thing before the warrenty expires ........ you can not kill this thing it keeps going and going and going .........and for 299 its hard to beat ............oh and by the way it works under water as well...........and if one day it dosent work oh well ill buy a new one and still wont have spent as much as a warn........aka warn out its welcome on my jeep .....over priced things still break...
