1994 2.5L YJ losing power

Hello all i have owned this jeep for about three years and recently had to replace all the rubber fuel lines and fuel filter. After doing this i have noticed very small random losses of power (like its running out of gas) it doesnt seem to favor any one condition. It does it hot, cold an as well as at any angle. I do not take it offroad. Just trying to find out what could be causing this. Thanks for any help.

:)

Im not sure if this is relevant, but engine was modified by previous owner. We dont know what was done but it is putting out around 203 HP and 248 ftLb of torque.

make sure u have the lines hooked up right on the fuel filter?

Seabisquit 04-25-2012 07:28 PM

Did you replace the fuel filter?

HFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's almost double what the stock 2.5L puts out!!!!! No freaking way, it would have to have been BUILT, that's more than a 4.0.

Yeah, aside from a supercharger/turbo/nitrous, there is no way the 2.5 is going to put out that sort of power.

x2 I just played around on my dyno program with one and even at 12:1 with a ported head, roller cam, etc etc it only did 178hp and 155tq

fuel blockage

If all else fails, you might want to check the rubber fuel connections to the metal lines. Especially on the input side. Sometimes a flap of the inner liner can get sliced and intermittently block the inlet, say of the filter. Something to check when all else fails.

Yes well me and all the people there at the dyno where as shocked as i was. They have looked at it and studied it and as far as can be found out it has no stock parts except the block witch has been heavily moddified. The guy i bought it from was and is a proffessional mechanic for a dirt racing team down here, and he will not tell me what has been done. Not sure why he is being so secretive about it.

Redrider94 04-27-2012 08:57 AM

If he won't tell you what's been modified to get that kind of power out of a 2.5 hope you never have any engine problems, as you most likely will never be able to get the right parts!!

Maybe he is too proud to reveal his magic.

I just dont think its possible without a power adder

I agree but i dont think the machine can be that wrong. Lol

Ibuildembig 04-27-2012 09:09 AM

Post the dyno printouts :)

+1. For a 2.4 to put out 200+ at the tire is going to have to be seriously built! Depending on the type of dyno used, there are corrections that can be applied to make it display any hp you want. Accurate dyno results are a combo of the dyno operators integrity, and the dyno itself.

P0234 04-27-2012 09:45 AM

Even a 16 valve NA 2.5 is going to have trouble hitting 200hp. Sorry, but I wouldn't even believe a dyno printout at this point, it'd take a youtube at a known dyno facility at this point.

If in fact it does make that much power, you need to take it apart, find out what he did, and start selling kits, you're going to be rich quick.

Xpress 04-27-2012 10:24 AM

There's just no way in hell that engine is making 200hp, if it is then it's not even a 2.5L engine that halfway resembles the stock engine. Could be a Honda Type-R engine, they can reach 200hp without much fuss.

American 2.5L engines are big, bulky, inefficient, and basically impossible to make such massive HP figures over stock without an idiotic amount of cash wasted, they're not desirable for high performance engines. None of us are believing you until we see:

-Video proof of said engine putting 204hp to the rear wheels.
-Video evidence of cylinder compression
-Pictures of the engine fully disassembled.

Yeah, but not with 250lb-ft. More like 130!

Ibuildembig 04-27-2012 10:40 AM

And only with a grapefruit shooter tip.....lol at imports

CharTay 04-27-2012 11:13 AM

And there's no forced induction of any kind? Idk about this

natax 04-27-2012 02:15 PM

I think I just shit myself hearing about this 2.5L putting out that much power. I don't think it is a 2.5L at all, it can't be. If so, you should be wheeling in it. No need to have that much power and not use it off road. Or you could always sell it and make one hell of a profit.
