Jersey law

What is the Jersey law for tires sticking out from your fender?

I'm about to order the DuraTracs 33x12.5R15, and I know it will stick out from the fender but not sure how much. This brought me to wonder what the law was in Jersey for them to stick out.

Anyone have problems that are running 33's?

Ok so technically your tire can not stick out. But has anyone had any problems with getting tickets?

I wanted to get this new setup but now I am having second thoughts.

You'll only get bothered it your driving like an a hole or being one. But there is always still a chance you can get one.

An inch past the fender flare is the furthest you can stick out legally but they wont bust your balls too much

I've been reading and searching and it seems it is not that big of a deal. I was not sure if it is something they look out for or another reason to pull you over. I know every officer is different but I just did not want to be an everyday target for them if they specifically look for the tire passing the fender.

TJallday97 04-26-2012 09:08 AM

Nah dude most cops wont even bother

I just looked online and found there is no law for fender in NJ. Only commercial vehicles need them. Anyone know anything about this? In this case any tire should be ok.

^^^^Under "Fenders" it says "Fenders must cover the full width of a vehicle's tire tread".

Thanks TJallday97, yeah I asked around and everyone says the same thing. They don't care and will not ticket you. Maybe 1 in every 100 you pass MAY care but usually not. I am going to order my setup in a few days :thumb:

I saw that but the sentence above that really confused me. That only commercial vehicles require fenders. Not surprising that the laws don't work together.

Yeah man i literally was standing next to a cop and i figured i would ask

TJallday97 04-26-2012 03:00 PM

as long as you dont piss anybody off youll be fine

VaderJK12 04-27-2012 09:22 AM

Yeah that's what it looks like. Thanks for your help.

TJallday97 04-27-2012 11:35 AM

No problem dude see you on the trails

06GoldenEagle 04-27-2012 11:39 AM

jersey is anything past an 1in i think, its pretty much up to the cops descretion, the dmv wont bother you because its only emissions now. i had to make flares for my pickup with 35s, i used garden bed liners a roll from the depot was cheap, cut and screwed them to the fenders, covered me and they didnt give my anymore problems.
