Loudest/agressive exhaust for 4.0 tj

Looking for the Loudest/agressive exhaust for 4.0 tj including headers and exhaust

Muddyjeep88 04-25-2012 07:24 PM

I have a stock exhaust but with a flow master 10 series and sounded nothing like I thought it would be

TjWranglerMan 04-25-2012 07:25 PM

U could cut the muffler off after the cat and put a down pipe it sounds pretty mean that's how I have mine

Vosty3 04-25-2012 07:28 PM

I like the sound of Banks exhaust but not so much the price at $300. Get yourself a good highflow muffler like a Magnaflow Flowmaster 40 and save atleast half the price of the banks setup... And ive heard of people banging up expensive exhaust setups while jeeping so another reason to go cheap and still get good sound ;D

scgeek12 04-25-2012 07:33 PM

:) heres mine lol, drove it like this for about 30 miles before I could get everything welded up, dont think it gets much louder than open header

first startup, open header jeep TJ - YouTube

It's still a 6-cylinder so you're not going to get them deep v8 growls like you might be anticipating. I have a Borla exhaust setup, and it sounds pretty deep and aggressive. Straight-pipping would probably be your most aggressive setup, but it's illegal in many states.

Yea that's what I have been looking at getting was the borla

Timmit 04-25-2012 07:47 PM

Just got a glasspack 2.5 in and out and love it. Like previous poster, won't doubt like a v8

MNTNGOAT 04-25-2012 07:51 PM

go to a muffler shop and have them weld up a custom exhaust. but first go look at the magnaflow off road series exhaust. then have him build a exhaust similar to that with magnaflow glass pack muffler. it sounds sooo awesome!!!! a buddy of mine has the monster exhaust and i have the custom one. mine is way lounder. im goin to need a new head unit and speakers so i can hear my radio over exhaust. it sounds bitchin

flowmaster and high flow cat-----I know a lot of people say BS but I think it got better with my CAI .....one thing is sure....I get a lot more compliments on the sound than any other MOD!!!

Vosty3 04-25-2012 08:22 PM

And when you go with a Flowmaster 40 be sure to go with a slightly larger tailpipe then stock as well about .25 bigger and you wont be disappointed ;D Ive heard the Banks in person and a Flowmaster 40 with a nice tip.

Tjdude08 04-25-2012 08:28 PM

I had flowmaster 40 series just removed because it sounded so bad. Had stock put back on. Sounded like a 4 banger as I accelerated. Idle sounded awesome but that was ut

If you want deeper the 50 should do the trick.

CAI, TB spacer, Borla header, cut the cat out, flowmaster super 40. Love the sound of mine. Did have turn downs right after the muffler, but the resonation at highway speeds was horrid in the cab. Moved the outlet back closer to the stock location with a tip...sounds much better now. Quiet in the cab and quite throaty out back on accel. As good as your goin to get with a 6 cyl anyhow.

Don't let anyone else see you saying this. They'll rip you a new one.

But I'm all for a CAI and TB spacer and I like the sound and the little performance gain from it.

TjWranglerMan 04-25-2012 09:28 PM

Here's what mine sounds like no muffler after cat and turn down sound very throaty

burton160w 04-25-2012 09:36 PM

Definitely like my Borla. It's throaty and has a nice range when I drive. I think it's the perfect blend between that aggressive sound I'm looking for without going overboard and ricer like a cherry bomb. As far as a CAI and TB, my PO installed a K&N and TBS. You get a nice whistle like a turbo, but as far as performance you're not actually gaining anything. Don't spend or waste your money, especially because off-road they're terrible.

I do like the sound of this i might do this thanks

Kilcrease 04-26-2012 07:56 AM

I agree with what other say and go cheap, especially if you offroad. I have a Cherry Bomb Extreme installed on mine and I have had many compliments on it, people say it sounds like a small V8. I think the muffler was only like 60 bucks and i had a local exhaust shop weld it on.

JeepinDave 04-26-2012 07:59 AM

I personally love the sound of mine. I have straight pipe welded where my muffler was. Cheap and sounds great

Lbailey21 04-26-2012 08:37 AM

Anyone have ideas as to what u could for the tail pipe? Make one or which to buy? I love the flowmaster 40 but I wanna have a larger tail pipe

Neil F. 04-26-2012 10:09 AM

Please don't ricer fart can large. Summit Racing has nice low cost stainless tips in a variety of shapes, sizes and lengths.

jrussblues 04-26-2012 10:15 AM

The loudest most aggressive you can go with is to eliminate the muffler with a straight pipe followed by a glass pack muffler. I believe both aren't street legal.

Imped 04-26-2012 10:24 AM

I used to want a louder exhaust too......if I had the room, I'd run a big-ass muffler and run as quietly as possible. It'll get annoying to you and others around you.

Mine is this exact set up

CharTay 04-26-2012 10:27 AM

Do not straight pipe it. Headaches will come

my friend straight pipe'd his jeep.

It's loud, obnoxious and sounds similar to this:

I hate loud exhausts on a Jeep, or any off-road vehicle for that matter. Nothing will ruin your perfectly peaceful camping trip in the wilderness like waking up to some moron romping the throttle of a loud arse vehicle at 6am.
