I started a Thumb-Michigan Jeep Club
Hey everyone in the Mid-Michigan area! I started a Jeep Club based in Mayville. Quite simply named "Thumb Jeeps". Looking for anyone interested in joining. Please send an email or private message with name, jeep yr. and model, and your email address if you want to join. (email only used to communicate event info)

I'm hoping to share local event information, get coordinators to pass along info for events and such from Lapeer, Vassar, Millington, Marlette, Caro, Caseville, Bad Axe, Port Austin, North Branch, and all other local areas.

I'm looking for a secretary, event coordinators, vice-pres, etc... or even just plain 'ol members to share in the local camp outs, BBQ's, mud bogs or trail rides. Whatever we can come up with!!!

The site is - if you live in the thumb area and join up, please post or send me a picture or two that we'll include on the website under "member jeeps". Its just getting started, as of April 25'th 2012 so there is not a lot out there yet. Our first event will be a Blessing of the Jeeps and Memorial Day parade on May 28'th 2012.

4 Local members so far. By suggestion, we've added a Galleries page to post pics of our outings and also a members page with a brief description of each rig.

Looking forward to meeting up w/some locals in the Thumb here. I know there are a lot of us, I wave all the time!!!

Meeee meeee meeee lol

sevenservices 05-03-2012 11:22 AM

Added a links page, working on it now... ^ Rebel_Ryders has some great ideas for the site and upcoming events!

Keep an eye on our events page if anyone in Mid-MI or the Thumb wants to attend.

sevenservices 05-30-2012 11:27 PM

We are up to 15 Members!!! From, Mayville, Oxford, Imlay City, Burton, Avoca, Smiths Creek, Saginaw, Clinton Twp. and now Caro!

It has been great sharing info on events and meeting new folks in the area with the same interests. :)

We were kind of in a pocket here in the thumb of Michigan. Lots of clubs 1.5-3 hours away but no inner communication for events within usually about 30-45 min. max. Most events we are listing are within a smaller radius to make them easier for members to attend. Going great so far!

Rebel_Ryders_Offroad 06-02-2012 11:04 PM

Welp maybe next time then. Me and andy(member of the club) are going to try and plan a weekend to bundy hill or rocks and valleys in late July I think.

miethead 06-03-2012 07:26 AM

Ok I will keep an eye out here and the thumb site.

WOW! Its amaizing what can happen in just one year alone! We started the club April 25'th 2012, a day before this thread was started.

Today, we are 1 yr. and a month into it. We've gone up to over 40 members and have participated in trail runs, mud bogs, parades, auto shows, campouts, evening campfires, membership meetings, fall color tours, cider mill tours and more!

We have assigned a few officers so far starting with;
Chris (me) - President, Secretary and Treasurer
Aaron - VP and Safety Officer
Andy - Events Coordinator/Trail Guide

We've established by-laws, sold t-shirts, stickers, etc... As well we now have to have a disclaimer of liability to ensure if anyone hurts themselves, their vehicle or others that the club is not liable. We don't carry insurance at this point but, we also do not charge a membership fee. We try to keep it free to all members as long as the club is not liable for injuries and vehicle damage. ;)

We've met other clubs such as, GLFWDA, Waist Deep 4x4, Offroad Jeepers, Trail Creepers, Jeeps of Michigan, What Lies Beyond and more!

Been a great year, and the time is just flying by for sure! Its nice to have an operating club off the ground. A lot of times its not worth starting one and we would have just joined another competing club. But, in the Thumb of Michigan there weren't any Jeep Clubs!!! But, there is now!

Thanks again everyone on WF for your insights, suggestions and brotherhood! We are all working hard to make offroading a legit sport.

HAAAAAYYYY... when you gonna add Midland to the list???

You bringing tshirts Monday??? And what radio channel you gonna monitor in case I get lost getting there? Going to pick up the two ways now...

Oh... and use this pic :punk:

sevenservices 05-23-2013 08:24 AM

10-4! We'll probably be on channel 8.

I have a few shirts, few windshield stickers and some smaller white or black ThumbJeeps ones about 10" long or so... The shirts and windshield stickers are only $10 each, of that, $2.50 goes to the club. The little stickers are only $3 each and the club makes about $1.50 off each. The shirts are brown & white w/ROADS ARE BORING! in tire tread on the back. :)

Chris do you have any idea what time you will make it over to The Mounds Monday? My kid is marching in the Burton parade, but we might be able to sneak out for a couple hours to get muddy.

[edit] never mind, found it in the other post!

sevenservices 05-28-2013 08:43 AM

Sorry Paul, just seein' this... we had a good time though in the parade and at the mounds. Here are a couple videos from the Mounds.

Also, I received my GLFWDA card and stickers. Kicking myself in the ass for not opening my mail Friday. I sat down last night after we got home and went through my mail, darn it I could have run my new GLFWDA stickers lol. Glad to help the cause, you guys do great things for sure.

My front driveshaft rebuild turned into the project from hell. First I couldn't get the Skid Row trans plate separated from the main tc skid. The u joint and centering ball went in and out as expected, couple hours at the bench. No problem reinstalling the drive shaft, but the skid that was so tough to get out wouldn't go back in. Unsprung from the frame, it was so splayed out that the bolt holes were 5/8" off. No amount of ratchet strap cranking and bfh pounding made any more than 1/8" difference. Had to open up the holes before it would all go back together. Next trip to Bundy Hill I need to be nicer to my "car".

Cliff Notes: planned to come but was under my Jeep LOL

no prob, we understand quality time in the garage :)

We had a CV come apart on our 2k Durango 5.9 R/T sunday evening. Almost left me stranded w/a couple thousand pounds of railroad ties on the trailer I picked up for building Jeep obsticals. I had a bad wobble left front at 60mph, backed down to 40 and it leveled off. A few minutes later started again. I pulled off and she started grinding like a bitch in all gears then clanked a couple times and I watched 2 steel bearings roll out from under us. Pretty bad when it comes apart for sure!!! I tried all gears in the all time 4x4 setting and had nothing. Dropped 'er into 4 Lock and I was fine to drive home w/the lockers engaged. I was 2 miles from home on my last of 3 trips of 40 minutes each way! But, hell, I have 50+ railroad ties to build with. Its like linkin' logs for adults. ;)

I thought the gearbox was shot w/the symptoms but it wasn't. All the trouble is in the front end.

ThumbJeeps is now over 150 members!!! We do a lot of stuff... here is an example video entitled "Who is ThumbJeeps".

184 members as of today! Also, we sistered with a group named Jeeps of Michigan for event sharing. Basically, they have over 350 members and are spread across Michigan. We've merged to share events, their events get posted to our club and our events get posted to theirs. Pretty simple, works great for all parties involved as we find that we're not having to both do the same work to host some of these things. It also helps everyone to find things to do with their Jeeps closer to home.

Spent yesterday at The Mounds in Mt. Morris snow wheeling w/about 30 other rigs from the various clubs in the area. Here is a public link to my photo album,

And we've hit 344 members so far!!! Its been a great couple years of wheeling for sure.
