New AEV Dualsport XT 2.5" lift installed

1 Attachment(s)
This thread is for people who are interested in doing the AEV Dualsport 2.5" lift. I took us about 8 hours for the install with breaks in between. We had a hard time removing and replacing the passenger side shock but other than that it went very smooth! If you have any questions let me know. When we were done we installed new AEV Pintler Wheels with Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ 315/70/17. The ride feels better than stock and braking is improved as well. I also installed the front geometry correction brackets which went on fairly easy as well.

Here she is :thumb:

Kelsey73 04-26-2012 03:46 PM

Mine is on the way. Did you disconnect the front DS for install?

Disraeli 04-26-2012 03:50 PM

Very pretty.

I thought I wanted the Argent Pintlers until just now.

JK09 04-26-2012 03:51 PM

Love the tires.

You should disconnect the driveshaft.

I've seen that brought up before ??

team38tim 04-26-2012 06:35 PM

Yes I did disconnect the front driveshaft per the instructions. It was a snap getting it off and putting it back on just mark both ends so it doesn't get turned and then re-connected.

Didn't sound like a huge deal. Did you see a torque spec for the bolts in the install guide?

team38tim 04-26-2012 06:55 PM

Driveshaft was cake compared to passenger side shock! Yup torqued according to instructions and will re-torque at 100 or so miles. If you are getting the kit, make sure you have the updated instruction manual, apparently I didn't so 1 call to AEV and one look at their website during the install and we were all set.

Kelsey73 04-26-2012 07:01 PM

The one I just downloaded didn't have any for the front DS......

team38tim 04-26-2012 07:05 PM

Sorry for the front driveshaft there wern't any torque specs just used locktite and made them super tight!

fishmd 04-26-2012 07:29 PM

Looks great! I am seriously considering this lift as well for my MW3. Like the Pintlers too. Thumbs up!

Now just get rid of that HUGE antenna.

DrDanimalSize 04-26-2012 08:42 PM

Does it rub anywhere? I love the look of JKs on 35s, wanna know how it does with a 2.5 lift

rtguy 04-27-2012 12:14 AM

did you have torque specs for the ca brackets? I'm wondering what the spec is bolting them up to the frame where spacer goes and the control arms used to be, not the ca to the bracket. it's not in the instructions....

someone was asking about coil orientation as well...whether the tight coils go up or down....I thought u mount them with the part number right side up...thats what I read and told them.

I will be putting this on my 2012 2 door soon...its in my dad's garage with ca drop brackets and procal...I ordered AEV Argent Savegre's from Dave @ Northridge4x4 today as well...just gotta get some tires now.

team38tim 04-27-2012 08:14 AM

The directions for the lift say 75 ft lbs for upper control arm bushings and 125 ft lbs for the lower control arm bushings so that is what I went by as it was not specified in the direction the control arm drop bracket instructions. The coil orientation is simple they only seat one way. On the rear the pig tail goes down and I believe it was the same for the front but like I said they only seat one way. I like those Savegre wheels too I was going back and forth between those and the pintler's but I liked the 5 star pattern more.

The pintlers are the five star pattern.

rtguy 04-27-2012 11:45 AM

I verified with Greg at AEV today and the control arm brackets get mounted up with the same torque specs as the actual arm itself. Thought I would pass this on.

rtguy, thanks I was pretty sure since it wasn't listed you just go with torque specs listed on install of the lift. :thumb:

The only rub noticed was the boot on the front driveshaft was rubbing the exhaust cross over pipe at full extension of shocks and springs. The kit says you do not need an exhaust spacer but I feel that if you are doing any off-roading it will be necessary to add it, I know I will be. My exhaust spacer has been ordered and should be here in a day or two.

Silverton34 04-30-2012 06:01 PM

I have that lift on my '12 JKUR. I did remove the driveshaft at the axle to avoid damage to the rzeppa joint boot. I ru 35 inch KM2s on Pintler argent wheels with almost no rubbing. I spent a week in Moab on some of the more difficult trails and only twice did I have any minor rubbing in the rear when REALLY twisted up. never did the front rub. The ride and on road manors are amazing. I did not modify the exhaust and have had no trouble with rubbing.
