You could always rig a hair dryer to the intake. It would produce more air flow then that and it would be a lot cheaper. Lol!

It's a ricer thing, those goons think they can make massive HP numbers from some cheap electric fan.

An electric fan supercharger can work, but it won't be cheap.

Now I'm curious. Since this particular SuperCharger seems not to be popular with the jeep population (you guys), what would be the best way to get some extra HP out of a 2.5/5spd YJ?

You'd have to use the cool setting thou,,,, hot air is no good for making HP :rofl:

My friend had one similar to this. It was a joke. Don't waste your money. Like others said use your wife/mom/daughters hair dryer for the same effect.

A V8 is the best supercharger. There have been quite a few superchargers marketed for the 2.5 and 4.0, they all seem to disappear rather quickly. I think Rimmer was around the longest, but I can't recall anyone that was really happy with their kit.

I would rather do an engine swap then spend tons of money trying to supe up my 2.5L.

Done right an inline 4 or 6 can make some really nice TQ numbers. However take it from a guy who knows what it costs to turn a 4 banger into a monster, a swap is cheaper, more reliable, and probably easier...

I wouldn't want it to be a monster. As is with stock size tires/rims my 4cyl has plenty of power. I don't lose mph going up hill in 5th over 55. And I purposely don't take roads where 70+ is the speed limit. But it holds 65 great. I'm just tryin to think about the future when I get a small lift and some 33's. Don't want it to be terrible.

There's plenty of power upgrades available that are less expensive than an engine swap. first and foremost is ditching that pathetic metal fan, it's so heavy and cumbersome that Jeepers have reported gaining almost 10hp by just swapping it with an electric fan.

For the MPFI 2.5L Jeeps:

-Ford 19lb injectors
-4.0 throttle body
-high flow exhaust
-high flow intake
-headers
-throttle body spacer
-high performance coil

And of course for all 2.5L's you can install a good set of aftermarket rollers to open them valves a bit longer. You'd probably need a good and hot coil to get all of that extra fuel burnt off though, but it would definitely improve low end torque.

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna have to make a note of all of that and do some research. I just got my jeep and have a lot to learn. Being a computer tech/salesman I don't have much background working on cars.

So true.... my friend has a 4popper and its fine on power. All the little things he did made it much better than stock. Takes the highway at 75 steady every day to work. Runs like a clock.

This is where a little engineering comes in. A 2.5 L has 151 cubic inches which = 1.08 cubic feet its a 4 stroke engine so take the RPM /2 x 1.08 and you have the answer to how much "boost" this "supercharger" is going to make . At 1700 RPM your engine is already intaking 918 cfm of air. Looks like the Boys are right . Perhaps get your little sisters hair dryer and an inverter to run it but leave it on the cool setting. I used to build Superchargers all day long for Detroit Diesel I've built everything from a 2-53 blower right up to EMD train superchargers which are about the size of a small block. i'm thinking if you wanted to supercharge a 2.5 on a budget a Supercharger from a Suburau might be the ticket they are a nice compact unit and if you don't have AC you could probably mount it right there, and its already engineered for a 2.5 L engine

Don't here much supercharger talk with the YJ's or at least I haven't but the best made supercharger out there IMO is RIPP Superchargers

I have searched for hours and can't find a supercharger for a 4.0 yj. And all that I can find are several thousand dollars.

I have not seen one either for pre 97 4.0's yet and all super chargers are 3-5k
