Whirring sound and a small crack in the power steering a pulley

A few days ago, my Wrangler sport began to make a whirring sound when accelerating. My dad and I checked under the hood and noticed a small line or crack in the power steering pulley. I haven't seen anything on WF about a wrangler having a cracked pulley, but I saw it a lot on JeepForum with Cherokees. Could the pulley be the source of the whirring? Sorry the picture is so hard to see, but you can see a small line across all od the grooves.

Is it a low-pitched whirring sound that is always there and increases and decreases with RPM? If so, I have the same sound and have been stumped. It would make sense, as a few months ago I was driving down the road when the idler pulley bolt decided to just come on out (thanks, PO) and tossed that pulley around my engine compartment.

I'm about to go check my pullies for any damage. Never even thought of this being the source of the sound.

When it idles it's pretty low but the pitch and volume increase and decrease with acceleration/deceleration. Let me know if you see something on your pulley.

Yep, I have something similar to what's in your pic on my power steering pulley. If you replace it and it fixes the noise, let me know. Personally, I'm just going to keep driving it. The noise is annoying, but shouldn't be harmful if it is indeed caused by this anomaly in the pulley.

One more thing, I'll probably try pulling the serpentine off and starting her up for a few seconds to see if the sound is still there. If not, then I'm pretty sure that's the culprit. I'll probably do that this weekend.

He ended up having a new pulley put on and the sound is gone.
