Hand Release Mirror Parts
NOTE:: I got the mirrors at Advanced Auto ($10 each) the rest I got at Home Depot for about $15 so both mirrors for about $35
  1. Stainless Steel Eyebolt with Nut 3/8" X 6" - This was hanging on the wall
  2. Wing Nut 3/8" - 16 thread - Stainless Steal - This was hanging up close to the eyebolt nut
  3. Bonded Sealing Washer 3/8" Galvanized - 2 per each mirror - Located in the boxes - It is sort of warped like a cone - one side is rubber the other is metal.
  4. Spacer Nylon 3/8" X 1" - 2 per each mirror, so 4 if your making 2 - Located in the boxes labeled spacers
  5. 3/8" Flat Washer - Should be just a bit smaller than 1" in diameter - 2 per each mirror

Putting it all together
  1. Put a flat washer on the eyebolt nut
  2. Put 2 of the nylon spacers on
  3. Put another flat washer on
  4. Put the stainless steal nut that comes with the eyebolt on just hand tight
  5. Put the mirror harness around the spacers. You can remove the black plastic liner. Make sure you have it pointing the right way for the side your putting it on.
  6. Alternate tighting the 2 nuts you just put on until it isn't going to move at all- It takes a 12mm and 14mm wrench
  7. Put on one of the Bonded Sealing Washers with the rubber pointing down.
  8. Put the assembly onto the hinge
  9. Put another Bonded Sealing Washer on there with the rubber side faceing up.
  10. Put on the wing nut and tighten it down as well as you can with your hands.
  11. Adjust the mirror

HOPEFULLY THIS WON'T VIBRATE LIKE CRAZY :banghead:
I tried a mod before this one that used a foot of 3/8" threaded bar sort of bent in the middle. It really didn't work all that great because of all the vibration at speed. I think this one will work much better being posted so tightly to the hinge.

Thanks to HighRoad for the inspiration :punk: I did quite a bit of tweaking to your design. Like they say good artist borrow, great artist steal.

UPDATE after driving with them a week

NO VIBRATION OR MOVEMENT
I've gone up to 55mph this week without these mirrors vibrating at all. I haven't gone on the interstate, but I'm sure they would do great. All I did was hand tighten them as much as I could.

QUIET
The don't make any noise or whistle.

A BIT WEIRD TO USE
They are convex blind spot mirrors. It is hard to judge distance well. It ends up that if you can see someone you really don't want to change lanes. If it is safe they will will look like a little speck.

Overall I'm very happy with them

Or you can get the small round wide angle mirrors at Walmart and stick them on the flats on the vents and be done for less than $5 both sides....

But, yours is a good idea as well. :)

VENT MOD RESPONSE
I really like that air vent mirror mod. I'll probably end up putting a couple on there. One of the weaknesses of the way I have it is that with someone with me it is hard to see the mirror on the passenger side. The air vents are higher so they would help with that. I actually use the vents quite a bit at night with the heater, so I'm glad I have the ones I got also.

@Matador I like that side mirror. Was it made for a Harley?

That's actually not my Jeep but I did try the vent mod. It did the job for me until a nice gust of wind came by and I felt something knock against my leg only to find out that the mirror flew off the vent. C'est la vie what are going to do. I'm going to try something else.

UPDATE
I took the mirrors on the interstate and they were rock solid at 70mph

I guess you should have bought the $5 ones? :hide:
