NSG 370 Transmission Fluid?
So changing out the fluid during a clutch replacement, and noticed the transmission fluid was kind of thin. I call the dealership telling them i was trying to obtain fluid, and asking what type it was. They said it was NSG 370, and not to use any other type. It doesn't seem odd they would say i have to use their brand, but it does seems odd to me they would use such a thin fluid. Any ideas on this, should i replace to factory specs? Should i use your standard transmission fluid? Royal Purple. Looking for the know how out there. Thanks!

I have the NV3550, and I use Amsoil.
Here's a search from an 05 4.0, you can change the vehicle specs if needed

I have the NSG 370 6-speed in my 05 LJ. I run Amsoil Synchromesh. No problems, smoother shifting than the factory fluid.

Ya, compared to old, heavy-duty transmissions, these NSG 370s run a thin fluid.
Do not attempt to run a thicker fluid.

I appreciate the heads up! I was going to buy from the stealer ship, but they are charging me 22 bucks for it

RP Synchromax works just fine.

Redline MTL, Royal Purple Synchromax, and Amsoil Synchromesh are all good choices for the NV3550 and NSG370.

So I just picked up 3 qts of tranny fluid from my dealer and it says nsg 370/nv 3500 on it and they're unfortunately closed in the parts dept for the weekend and this was the fluid they said I needed but its used for six speeds right? I need to know before I use it if its safe. I have a 03 wrangler 2.4 5 Spd transmission

That gear lube is what you want for your NV1500 transmission as well. The NV3550, NV1500, and NSG370 all require the same type of gear lube.

So I can use it lol I just get paranoid

How many quarts should i be putting in my nsg 370
I swear the dealership told me 1.6qts go in my 2014 JKUR 6speed transmission but online I keep seeing 1.9qts and today I drained the transmission and put 2 full quarts in minus a small amount of spillage and leftovers in the bottle. and it never oozed out of the fill plug is this normal??? Please help!!! I expected it to come out the fill hole especially if the dealership said 1.6qts now I am concerned that it may be over full .4qts. Also if it was over full would that do any significant damage to my transmission?

Jerry Bransford 11-04-2014 11:28 PM

So long as you fill it from the fill hole on the side, you can't overfill the transmission like is possible with the engine.

lynn 11-05-2014 09:13 AM

The NSG 370 six speed in my 2005 LJ took just under two qts of Amsoil Synchromesh.
No spillage, filled from the hole in the side. There was about 1/2 inch of fluid left in the 2nd bottle.

Sorry, but actually they don't.
The NV(NVG)1500 five speed takes a different lube that has a friction modifier built in.
GM dealers sell it.
I don't have the details any more since I got rid of my 2003 SE which had the NV1500 in it.
It always shifted like $hit but never broke.
Search will get you the details.
