Ha! I mean rusty bolts. I just took a chance and bought an '09 Sahara from the Lithia dealership. I runs & drives great, 45k miles, and Carfax says it's been registered in Ontario & Indiana before going to auction. The one weird thing about it is that the nuts bolting the seat frames to the floor are all rusted, as is the bracket that holds the subwoofer to the rear floor. Also noticed a steel plate under the steering column (behind plastic cover) is all rust.
Would a flood event cause this? Or is your Wrangler rusting too? Or maybe it came from life in a shoreline community? I'm starting to scare myself about what I may have gotten myself into-

Good questions. My first thought is it is a jeep. God knows who and where it was driven. Not to mention how well they took care to dry it out once in a while. I wonder how much salted snow and ice might have gotten tracked in and never rinsed out too. If it was me i'd clean them up and put some rust inhibitor stuff on them...Ospho..comes to mind. I hope i spelled that right. And if your so inclined, replace with stainless where ever possible.

a flood could cause it

or the cowl vent leaking under the dash leaving water on the floor

or a roof leak causing it to sit with wet carpet for an extended period of time

with that low of miles, you got yourself a winner for sure. I wouldn't let the little bit of rust bother you. I had something stupid happen that was similar, I have a 1986 Chevy Van. My kids left a half bottle of water in there. It got hot and cold for two months and condinsated on the outside of the bottle. It was about a foot from the seat belt bracket and now the seat belt bracket is covered in that rust. It doesn't take a lot of humidity to cause that... I was surprised.
