How about this Sunday?

I'm Off this sunday. Have a few trails in mind. I can narrow it down very quickly! It's going to be in the San Bernardino area this time. Who's in?

MrBash 02-28-2008 02:59 PM

We have three guys ready to go this Sunday. We're heading out to Sugarpine Canyon Rd (AKA Mt Pike Rd). Exit Palm off the 215 (south of Interstate 15, North of Interstate 210) and head north until you get to a dirt road. This is a moderetely difficult trail. So far we are two jeeps and my buddy in the touareg. 10:00am is meeting time at the trail with tops down...Maybe even no doors! I;m posting this because I would like some of you guys from the forum to come along. I'll check back soon. If anyone is interested just reply or PM me. Hope to gather some more people.

Click this link and will it show you the location on google maps. This is a 17 mile trail.

That Sucks! Just call in sick! What do you do anyway? Your not in the car business as well are you?

On the side note, I just got off the phone with arrowhead ranger district and we are clear to go. The roads are open.
Just got word from my buddy Norm from the VW dealer and he's coming out with two Jeeps as well. So now we are 4 Jeeps and a Touareg and I'm waiting for my cousin to give me the OK that he will be there with his Red CJ or YJ...I forget what he has.

This time I'm bringing the gas grill with 5 lbs of chicken breast with Armenian Marination and 5 lbs of Beef Kebab with armenian marination.

Haik....WHERE YOU AT?

VVJeepFreaks 03-01-2008 10:36 AM

I wish I could... we are short handed right now. ,Im a Firefighter for California Steel in Fontana. Im am usually off everyother weekend, But one of the Leads is on an OWO and a few others going on Vacation so I'm filling in for them. Nice that its a promotion but my weekends for the next month or so are shot. Again it sounds like a blast and Im sure the days will work out at some point. At least all the overtime can go to some new toys for the jeep.

It's a long story!

The trip was canceled due to high winds. It was impossible to wheel.
everyone bailed on me.

At midnight the Touareg canceled, at 4am the JK canceled, at 8am my cousin canceled due to wind, and at 10 am the other two jeeps canceled because of broken down jeep problems. There I was with 8lbs of barbeque, my girl, her cousin, myself and my jeep.

I drove to trailhead but the winds were rediculous. I saw old cabinets flying in the air.

I drove to Azusa, they were closed. So I decided to goto Santa Clara Divide Rd so the girsl can have a little backcountry adventure plus I wanted to eat all the meat, I was starving.

A "1" rated half dirt half pavement trail all of a sudden turned to a difficult trail at the end.

Thats a 30 mile trail from the 14 around palmdale to angeles crest. We drove 22 miles and then had the barbeque. At the end of the trail I ran into patches of snow and then into a lot of snow. Sure enough this wasn't snow...IT WAS ICE!

I'm thinking I have 8 miles left so let me airdown and just drive through. There we're no tire tracks heading down the snowey trail. Aired down to 12 PSI and drove about 2 miles through the snow and then all of a sudden "STUCK". Jeep sat on its belly at 3:45pm. Mind you I've been up since 6:30am for this trip.

Started digging the snow with the shovel and piling rocks but no movement. I dug 1 foot below the tire and still did not find solid ground. I dug and shoveled and piled up rocks and moved snow/ice for one hour...it was hopeless. I told the girls we are sleeping here tonight, we'll wake up in the morning and call the ranger to get us out. The fear in their eyes was unbelievable. I'm a hunter so this was not a big deal, I can spend a few days in the woods. I did get scared because the whole time I'm thinking what if some wacko comes up here, kills me and takes my girls?

Anyway...
at 6:30pm I hear a lifted toyota coming down the hill behind me with front and back lockers...My girl is yelling, we're saved!...I'm thinking, "oh god, please don't be a nutcase. They turned out to be gentlemen. After about 5 tugs he got me out.....but now he got stuck. It took us 2 hours of shoveling snow and tugging and yanking the Toyota with my Jeep to get him out. After I got him out, I got stuck again and then he got stuck again. We kept pulling each other out. this entire time I'm thinking "I just wanna go home". It got to a point where it wasn't fun anymore. At 10:00pm we were both unstuck and free and clear to go home. We we're not able to drive forward so we turned back and rallied our way back through the 22 miles to Sand Canyon rd. At that point it got fun again.

At this point, I have rear body damage and no rear bumper. The bumper ripped away from the car. Nothing happened to my frame, just the bumper. I was happy about that because I wanted a real offroad bumper ion the back. At this point it's time for a lift kit and one more tool added to the Jeep...An Ax! so I can chop wood if needed.

I got some pics of us stuck so I'll post them up.

JeepGuyLJ 03-05-2008 08:08 PM

WOW! shant, sorry hear that many people bailed on you. Now there is reason to buy a nice rear bumper.:D

Dude that stinks but sure happy it all worked out.....What a pain.

Rawkon 03-06-2008 12:08 AM

daaaamn man, that really sucks. glad you made it out ok. Thats why i never wheel alone anymore. I rolled a suburban years ago and i had to walk for 4 hours.

The next time i wheel alone ill have a winch and some people on call.

did you have any phone service out there??

MrBash 03-06-2008 02:33 AM

I did have phone service luckily. But it didn;t help out. I called my dad to come get me with the expedition....2 hours later, he couldn't find the trail. That's when I told the girls we're going to end up sleeping there. Around 6:45 or so, the Toyota shows up. Who knew there would be snow up there? I'm glad I had my shovel. But then again I always have my shovel, and my ax, and my air pump, and extra water, and protein bars...The only item missing was my shotgun. Damnit I would of hunted some coyotes.

The mesed up part is I've been wheeling with my girl for 5 years and she wasn't scared of it anymore for the past two years and now this happens. She's terrified to go wheeling alone.

I need a winch...but before that, I need a lift...DAMNIT I NEED BOTH!!!!

Rawkon 03-06-2008 08:13 PM

dont you have my number???

MrBash 03-06-2008 10:00 PM

No bro, we never exchanged it.

MrBash 03-07-2008 06:15 PM

Got your Number Rawk, thanx bro. Save mine too (626) 826-4063.

Here's where I got stuck....as you can see....no one was around...All Alone!
