Anyone here near Kearneysville/Martinsburg?

Hi, just figured I'd ask if anyone was in my area. I have a problem and I kinda need some help. I just got a Rubicon Unlimited with the Dual Top option and I doubt my wife's going to be strong enough to assist me with getting the hardtop off.

Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but the softtop is still stowed in the vehicle and must be removed, according to the dealer information. This is my first Jeep, and despite reading instructions from the Owner's Manual (online), I'm just not sure how to remove the softtop. :nonono:

So anyway, if anyone is in the area and would like to lend a hand, I'm offering some free beer...well, money to go get beer. :)

Never heard of Durt Burg! :D Lots of "Burgs" in WV. Which "Burg" do you really live in? :D

Thanks for offering your help!

Great video!

I did manage to get everything situated; took it to the dealer and they got the softtop uninstalled from the trunk. Now, I only have the hardtop on it but I have a hoist on the way. Hopefully, I won't have any trouble getting the softtop back on! :thumb:

Martinsburg. Me and my friends have been affectionately calling it the durt burg since middle school or so when I moved here.

If you ever want to sell the soft top, let me know. I'm going to start looking on craigslist when I get some more funds.

Durt Burg is pretty fitting. :D

Where in Dirtburg are you?

Six 07-15-2012 03:00 PM

Want to start a jeep club? I can provide the beer.

Sounds like a great idea, but I guess I'll be watching everyone else drink the beer! The only beer I drink is Root Beer, and that's only once in a while. :D

A Dirtburg Jeep meet should be in the works.

Sweet, more for me. I brew, so I have good beer most of the time. I do think someone around us brewing last time asked if we could make root beer.

I use to live in Shepherd behind the Food Lion. Back in Wild Flower behind Kent Parson's now. I'm going to try and start looking for a place to buy in the next couple months and see what I have to do to become a home owner.

It's too late to think. :D

I'm surprised I haven't seen your Jeep around, considering how close you live. As for me, just look for a Bright Silver Metallic Rubicon Unlimited. It's the only one in the area...that I've seen, anyway... :thumb:

I'll have ACE rails on by next week then I'm deciding on my next mod. Lift and wheels or bumpers.

Frederick has a small meet up the first Wednesday of every month. I went to the June meet but missed this month because of a friend's birthday celebration. That's done through Maryland Jeep Club. Element Offroad also does a meetup in Urbana. It may be a bit more regular.

My friend's uncle in Falling Waters is helping with the lift and with regearing when I finally get around to it. He's a big mopar guy and has several Dodge trucks and cars that he's done all the work on.

It's great having friends, especially with the insane prices I've been quote by some performance shops for what amounts to easy work.

Indeed, my Dad has a shop in Winchester, I grew up working on cars. Lol

I was thinking about getting the ACE rails for my Jeep. I have no clue how to install these things.

...and then I have a Harken Hoist which I need to put up, but I am so NOT a handyman. I had to have someone come out and do some other repairs and the company quoted me $300 to install the lift! That seemed a wee-bit expensive for installing a Harken Hoist. :surrender:

Anyway, I'm getting second opinions on ALL the work we were going to have done. :nonono:

The hardest part about the rails is that the washers need to be ground down to fit the rails. Other than that it bolts up to where the body bolts to the frame. I should have them in time for Raussh next weekend.

The hoist shouldn't be too difficult. Is it electric?

The hoist is not electric, just a basic hoist.

I watched some of the videos of the ACE rails install and it didn't look real difficult, save for shaving down the washers. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to shave down washers with.

Hey, thanks for the offer! What has to be ground down on the washers, the entire things, or just portions of them?

Just the sides so it's like a circle with two flat opposing sides. The circular washer has to fit in a rectangular box, so the sides have the be ground to clear. I got an e-mail with a tracking number. Mine will be here today. If I don't get them on this evening, they'll be on by this weekend some time. I'll take photos.

That'll be great! I'm still trying to figure out how these are going to work in conjunction with the stock Rubicon rails.
