oil and black residue in the throttle body and intake hose

Took my air intake apart last week to take out the air reducer found oil and black residue in the throttle body and intake hose. I think this could be one reason my engine sputters ever so often, what's happening and what should I do?

I'm not sure about the oil if you're sure that is what you found, may be blow by which sounds common in Jeeps. Lots of different things people have done to fix this but maybe someone will be by with a better answer. The black residue is carbon build up. Try cleaning out the throttle body with some intake cleaner. You may want to do your spark plugs as well but do the cleaner first.

If oil is in your intake tube, check your PCV, if its plugged oil will be pushed up your breather tube into your air cleaner and coat everything with oil...

Carb clean will break down the oil, but wash it off the rubber and plastic quickly or it will deteriorate the material and cause other issues.

I've also noticed some oil or at least black residue on the air filter when i changed it last. Not sure what is causing it, it's not alot but definitely shouldn't be there.

x2 on swap ou tthe PCV valve. If you listen real closely you should hear like a rapid tick from it as it opens and closes, if not it is stuck.

Our PCV valves are not that type, they consist of a fixed orifice, just pull it out of the valve cover, if there is vacuum at the end, its ok, clean it out anyways. if no vacuum, its plugged.
