Bestop Instatrunk

hello.

iīm searching for a way to protect my tools and recovery items. with the softtop on the risk is too high that sombdy steals that stuff.

what about the bestop instatrunk?
http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=6530

how is it mounted? can i take it out in a few minutes when i want to carry more things with me without the rear seats?

do you have some pics how itīs mounted?

thanks in advance.

I have one. They mount with 4 bolts, two on each side. I believe it uses existing holes w/nuts welded to other side (mine came installed in the rig when I bought it). Takes about 2 minutes to remove when you don't need it. Hope this helps.

nicolas-eric 03-06-2008 07:12 PM

that really helps.

do you have some pics of the installed instatrunk?

This may help:

thanks scooby.

on the small pics at 4wd.com i couldnīt see this edge at the sides:
http://up.picr.de/836557.jpg

thatīs not good. on that way there isnīt enough space for my toolbox...but i thing it will fit anyway.
that are all the things (except the tires) i always have in my trunk:

Could someone with one of these please measure the distance between the floor and the top of the trunk.
Im wondering what Subwoofer box can fit in there

thanks

White93ARB 03-06-2008 09:36 PM

Damn Nico, I have one that I'm not even using, since I have my spare tire where the back seat should be there isn't room for it. But I don't think one from a YJ will fit a TJ. I woulda given you a deal too. If it will fit let me know, but I'm just going by that link, where it said it was specific to the TJ years.

I can measure the inside height just to the floor, since it's not installed. But it should give you an idea. I'll get back to you about it.

White93ARB 03-06-2008 09:38 PM

It's about 11 inches tall on the inside, and about 10.75 inches deep. Hope this helps.

nicolas-eric 03-06-2008 09:45 PM

the TJs rear seat is a bit more to the rear, the trunk is a bit smaller. i donītthink the YJ instatrunk will fit in a TJ.

White93ARB 03-06-2008 09:47 PM

Oh, ok. Well if you find out it'll work I can ship it to you with the rest of the parts.

*The dimensions on the website for that TJ model are the same as the dimensions as mine, I'm pretty sure. At least the height and depth, but I don't know about width. But it seems like if any of them would be different, it would be the depth, with the rear seat location changed.

im jus thinking about a subwoofer, thats a pretty effin small one to fit in there

White93ARB 03-06-2008 09:50 PM

You could put 2 nice 8" subs in there if you had the right box.

nicolas-eric 03-06-2008 09:51 PM

that thing is too big for shipping with the normal postal service.
and with UPS air freight it would be too expensive. only big companies like 4wd.com have good freight rates. for a private person it would cost twice or more.

Jma20a 03-06-2008 09:54 PM

when it gets wormer i plan on building one on my own, i to have a sub and none of the insta-trunks are tall enough. i'm thinking of using some expanded steel with a hinge so that it will open up from the top, and i plan on having a piece behind the tailgate that lifts up.

OK, just tryin to save you a few bucks on the trunk, but your right, shipping would probably outweigh that.

If you want more room, go for the olympic trunk from Quadratec! That way you can get real 12" subs.

When I get home tonight or tomorrow morning, I will post a picture of what I did about that. I bought this thin boss 600w sub and mounted it on my tailgate. It fits perfectly in the insta-trunk. There's about 3/8" space between top and bottom. And now with the insta-trunk, my sub is locked away when the top comes off.

rebelBullDawg325 03-08-2008 01:56 AM

i had 2 10's installed in a custom box firing down behind the back seat of my YJ

Pretty good bass and didn't lose much room. I'm happy with it.

I Have One Too

Easy to install with four bolts & well worth the investment for your stuff when you are running with a soft top...

Do you guys with the big stereos ever carry tools or spare parts? When my trunk is packed for a ride I do good to squeeze extra zip ties in. I really need to take a picture sometime, my club mates kid me about having "everything".

nicolas-eric 03-17-2008 07:57 PM

i also ask me why people install big stereos in a wrangler.
that's an offroader and no "bling-bling" asian wannabe-sports-car...

G54 03-17-2008 08:49 PM

Ordered my Instatrunk today and should have it in three days. Scooby, thanks for the heads up on the install. Figures - I have an Unlimited. Cordless charged and ready!

I have the people in the back seat carry them on their laps, or I stack it on my sub box in back. I carry everything I need without a problem.
