Need a new soft top

What is the best way to go on a soft top for a Jeep Wrangler 1997?

i have the trextop nx i love the top compaired to the factory top

I was an early adopter of the Trektop NX and I LOVE mine. Before the NX, I have run several other types and brands of OEM style tops.

The best advise I can give is that if you like the OEM style of top, get a Bestop Replace-a-Top. Skip over the other brands and pay the extra couple of dollars. There is a reason Bestop costs more, and in this case it is completely worth it.

So the Trektop NX is made by Bestop? Is there a huge difference in quality and how long it will last compared to other tops?

The Trektop is made by Bestop. It is made with "sailcloth" material which is much thicker than factory canvas = quieter.
The Trektop is a frameless design so it is unlike a factory style, but it's pretty sweet. The cheaper, equally effective route is to just get the 'replace-a-top'. They sell it in sailcloth and non-sailcloth for a little less $.

Thanks! Sorry, I'm just trying to get an idea about these tops the best I can before I spend $500.
Could you identify the top that I have now? I'm guessing it's a Bestop because it has a Bestop sticker on it.

That looks like a SuperTop. Good one. That's what I have and I like it. It's a framed top but not the OE. If you go with a replace a top you will have to get the door surrounds as well which can add a $100 or so. I would suggest the Trektop NX (frameless) or another super top.

To be sure - you can use this: Jeep Soft Top Comparison Guides, With All the Answers To Your Questions On Soft Tops

It's really about the hardware you have. I just want to +1 the replace a top comments. I just got one and it's worth the few extra bucks. I was going to buy a Rampage frameless but that whole bikini header thing looks like a royal pain.

I just installed a new Bestop Supertop and right now I am as nervous as heck....it's raining, thunder and lightning outside...I am a Jeep newbie and recently got the Jeep...not sure what to expect....will I be bailing out the Jeep? ... Oh boy.... Do the soft tops hold up well or should I expect it to be damp and wet in the Jeep in the morning?

Nervous as heck!!! :hide:

Does the Trektop NX fold completly down, or only into the safari configuration? I watched the video on it and they only mention sunrider style and safari. I'm new to Jeep's, just picked up and '04 Rubicon and it has the ractory hardtop on it.

no it doesnt fold completly down i just use the sunrider and take out all the windows
