Don't Order Anthing from Smittybilt

I am now beyond mad and I need to vent. I ordered a Smittybilt MOD bumper, Bull Bar, Full Width end caps with fog lights and the X2O 8 winch back in Oct 201. I ordered the tow bar that matches the bumper's recovery D rings in Feb 2012. On 8 Dec 2011 the MOD center section and Bull Bar came in. Not too bad but it was March before the winch came in and may for the end caps. All of this I was able to work around but now I am told the tow bar ordered in Feb may be here by Sep. This is the last straw. The tow bar is needed to go on vacation in June so I am stuck with having to buy another tow bar for 3 times the money or have my wife drive the Jeep to CO. All I can say think twice or three times before you order anything from Smittybilt. For me I have purchased the last Smittybilt product period.

It is good to know this. Thanks

Interesting, I've personally never had any problems with then but I've only bought small items and then only from the local 4X4 Hardware store. I appreciate the feedback, a similar post by someone that had problems with their seat covers' quality, steered me away from them as well.

They have earned the name shtty built in my parts. Unfortunate, good luck to ya.

ESP 05-30-2012 03:58 PM

Not trying to insult but did you check prior to ordering that these products were available to ship?

CT93YJ 05-30-2012 04:48 PM

i'd say ordering in "oct" should be enouph. if 8 months ain't enouph time they shouldn't offer it...

For this Jeep Wrang family, Having issues with smitty, Rugged, Sears, K-mart and Now Midas.. Our options are growing limited and much shorter. I just don't see the kind of ordering like it use to be a few years back. Everyone is so caught up in this social networking afraid to lose a member (number) etc.. they have totally forgotten what's important.

This isn't the first time I've seen this kind of issue or comment.. Just today Sears contacted me still apologizing about a mistake they made nearly three years ago.. I would assume they are trying to win us back.. and it's not going to happen..

Sort of like: "Cross Me Once, My Fault. Cross Me Twice, Your Fault"

But again.. if we wanted to order something from any on the list above.. Guess we'll just have to do without.

jkaufman_95 05-30-2012 05:22 PM

I've purchased a few small items from them (handgun case with sleeve, mag light holder, first aid bag)
And they are alright. But their bigger items I would steer away from

No, the websire said will ship in two to three days. Just goes to show you that you can't believe everything you read.

The way I look at it if it is not on the shelf at the store buy it from someone else. I am just so ticked off I won't buy any of their stuff again. Rear bumper is going to be from Ace Engineering with tire carrier. Ace may take a bit but at least I already know that and their stuff is made here in the USA not in China. I read that Smittybilt was made in the US but moved everything to China. I also heard that the parent company of 4WheelParts bought Smittybilt to boost their production and keep the supply going. Seems they failed in a major way.

They handle thousands and thousands of orders not only nation wide but abroad. Things can go on back order pretty quickly and websites don't get the news.

Iceweasle33 05-30-2012 08:41 PM

I've purchased numerous Smittybuilt products from various sites and never had a problem. Their stock or lack their of, is based on the popularity of the item that you're ordering...

kenb1023 05-31-2012 07:32 AM

These were new product lines. They started selling them before they evenhad production going. Maybe in a year they will have a stock built up and this will be no longer an issue that that does me and anyone of the other 300+ plus people on the order list any good. They don't even have the decency to tell customers that the item will not be available for X-Months. This is a total lack of concern for the customer. So why should we have a concern for them or buy their products? There are plenty other suppliers out there.

Couldn't pay me to buy a Shiybilt product, or any other "Made In China" piece of junk, either. If it ain't made in the USA, I don't want it.

People don't realize when they buy their Shiybilt bumpers and what-not that other countries don't meet the same quality standards or "strength standards" that USA-built parts do.

BTW, do you know of any wheels and lift kits that are made in the USA? I'm not putting some "Made In China" garbage on my vehicle.

Yeah, checked'em out. I was hopeful they offered their own lift kits but looked like they only carried Trough Country.

It was at one time. The company started here in the US. But ut was cheaper to make the stuff in China. So sad to see what could be good American jobs go to a country that has no idea what quality control is.

It went the way of American Greed, both Management and Labor. It is just to expensive to make anything in the US it seems.

Md_rubi 06-11-2012 06:44 PM

I've had problems with many fabricators not shipping their products when I was told. Not to mention any names out in west coast it look them over a yr to get their products. In the past I vowed I'd never buy smittybuilt products but I have their front bumper and I'm very impressed with quality and service. Hope you get everything worked out and you might want to check with one of many vendors they have for inventory.

...And ironically you wind up spending MORE when you buy some foreign piece of garbage because you wind up replacing it. I ordered a Randall RT100H amplifier head from Musician's Friend and when I got it, the distortion channels didn't even work. I THOUGHT this head was made in the USA but it was "Engineered in the USA, ASSEMBLED in China." I got a replacement and the replacement lasted TWO WEEKS BEFORE literally fizzing out. I replaced it with a MADE IN THE USA Peavey 3120 and haven't had any problems. The Peavey was about $200 more expensive than the Randall.

I'll pay the premium for a USA-made product. In the end, it's cheaper to initially spend more.

Mossman 06-11-2012 08:19 PM

I'm glad to come across this thread. I ordered a couple of smittybuilt seatcovers through an online dealer, and I must say they are THE shoddiest product I have purchased in recent memory. One strap just came off in my hands, and one of the seats had two 'male' plastic connector clips. A third clip simply broke off, and the threads in the face of the seat are coming apart after less than a week. It's really unbelievably bad quality, but it just isn't worth my time to do anything about it except warn off others from this despicable manufacturer.

kenb1023 06-12-2012 06:57 PM

I must say some of the stuff from Smittybilt is OK. I have two winches from them and they work fine. The first one was the XRC COMP 10. Nice winch does what I need it to do and the price was fare. That is why I went and got the Bumper, X2O * winch and the tow bar. Had I known how long it was going to take to get it all in I would have made other choices. As it is I can-x-ed the Tow Bar and got a Demco Commander. I just need to make adapters for it to hook on at the D rings. I have a local machine shop doing it right now. But like I have said before, no more Smittybilt for me. Unless it is free because that is what is worth.

Hoytgirl07 06-12-2012 07:07 PM

Sorry to hear about your problem. I guess I was one of the lucky ones cause I ordered the Smittybilt SRC rear bumper with tire carrier and it was here in a week. But I have had problems like this in the past but not smittybilt. I feel your pain.

jeepjones 06-12-2012 07:13 PM

I find for the most part that you can get just about everything fabricated locally for around the same price as having to deal with some mail order company that couldn't give a flying fart about you. You usually end up with much higher quality parts as well.
