Thoughts on this TJ???

Yj owner seriously considering upgrading to this TJ pictured here...

http://www.wrbauto.com/mobile/mImage...0844666|293566

A small nick in the windshield and two dents on the rear passenger side (you can kinda see in the pics) Were the only real cosmetic issues.

I am having it checked out by my mechanic tomorrow. Hopefully she comes out with a clean bill of health. I test drove it. Shifted great, so much more comfortable than my YJ hahahaha!

Under all of the interior is pretty much flawless. No rust at all inside. All typical problem areas also check out (fenders, hinges, windshield frame, etc)

Hard top still secured with torx bolts! Doors have factory nuts as if they have never even been removed. No fading of roll bar pads or visors from sunlight.

This jeep is priced at 6,995. Good deal? What would you offer?

needforspeed150 05-31-2012 10:46 PM

How many miles.. Looks like a pretty nice tj. If it runs out good and doesnt have crazy miles It doesnt sound like a bad one.

SurfKaster 05-31-2012 11:05 PM

That's actually not that bad of a price. I'd be curious to know what rear axle it has. If it has a dana 44 it's a win. Only real knock for me is there is no factory air, but I live in the south. I'd also take a close look for rust. It looks like they painted the front floor pans black & with no front carpet there may have been an issue. Also looks like the dealer put cheapo ATs on it for the sale. I imagine the spare is OEM. Very possible the top may not have come off much with the factory harness. Good thing is that the top alone is worth about a grand.

I'd personally would feel better with a price closer or just under 6. I doubt the dealer gave much more than for 4, if not less for it on a trade. Either way I don't see them budging too much.

TKorona 05-31-2012 11:25 PM

PowderMonkey, thanks. Now that I think of it, the floor pans did look black. As for mileage, it has 1316xx. I'm definitely going to search real hard for rust tomorrow, and the tires are definitely cheapos. The guy said it's 500 dollars worth of new tires, but I don't know about that. Although they definitely are new with lots of tread. I definitely would not offer the full asking price either. Thanks guys

powder monkey it's got factory air.

tkorona i'd buy it at that price, but since their asking 7 try to get it for 6.

Unless you see something I don't I respectfully disagree, but I do agree on the price.

No compressor in the engine pictures, no air. Looks like a nice Jeep for the money if you can get them down a bit. I have a 99 I keep at our place in Florida and it does not have air. Doesn't really matter, the top is always down!

Not too bad of a deal, but it clearly doesn't have air and didn't come factory with air. I personally don't see buying a Jeep from a dealer period. There are too many deals to be found from private sellers.
As far as air goes though, I live in Ga and we have some hot humid summers, but my Jeep doesn't have air either, and I am fine with it. My AC engages with two latches just above the windshield.

4Jeepn 06-01-2012 09:32 AM

If it had AC and dana 44 rear might be good at 5k... also would want to know what the blob of dirt and rust looking stuff is on the center console just forward of the gear selector.

Gate53 06-01-2012 09:40 AM

I wouldn't touch it at that price. I bought my 2000 TJ 2 years ago with air and only paid $6000 with 119,000 miles. It has 1/2 doors and a soft top but that's what I wanted. Also it's a 5 speed, again it's what I prefer. Keep looking. Patience it worth a lot of money when looking for a used Jeep.

kshaws21 06-01-2012 10:32 AM

Just looked at the actual dealer description and they advertise it with A/C. The fact that they don't even realize that it doesn't have air says they really don't know anything about it to me. I would not touch it unless they made a much sweeter deal than what they list it at.

I don't see a compressor in the pics of the under- the -hood pics ...only the empty ac mount.. just like mine and I don't have AC either

All depends on your location. I paid $9900 for my 2000 sport 5 speed soft top and full doors with 103k miles in november 2011. But see if the dealer will replace the windshield. I thought used car lots had to do that. I test drove my TJ with a nasty crack on the windshield and they wouldnt let me take it home till they replaced it.

TKorona 06-01-2012 05:18 PM

Thanks everyone! The listing is a little off for sure, but air is not a real concern of mine. my mechanic said a new muffler and tail pipe are necessary plus an oil change and a new serpentine belt, other than that he says it looks pretty good inside and out. A lot to think about I guess, some people have me second guessing! But thanks to all for your replies. I appreciate your knowledge

6InARowMakesItGo 06-01-2012 05:30 PM

umm I'm looking at the switches inside

Fog lights where optional.

JimsJeep 06-01-2012 07:37 PM

I honestly think it is about 2 Grand to high. That's more than double of what I paid almost 4 years ago for a 2000 with similar mileage.
This is what I am seeing in Jersey right now.

almost like a house ---LOCATION -------LOCATION ---LOCATION around here on a DEALER lot (not craig list) IMO that would be 9-10K minimum.

I live in the south and i prefer no AC. Can't stand AC.

TKorona 06-05-2012 09:26 PM

Well, I went for it! And I really am happy I did. The jeep is in great shape and is a huge upgrade from my YJ. Pics when I pick it up tomorrow. Thanks again to everyone for the input and advice

If you aren't afraid of losing it offer $5,500. The worst they will do is come back at a counter. Set a price in your head like $6,000 and slowly move up to it. At that I have never bought from a dealer. So I don't know how they work. It would work I'd it was off Craigslist. lol hope it helps!!!

TKorona 06-05-2012 09:34 PM

It was a small dealership. I ended up paying $6500 after everything was said and done so I'm pretty pleased. But I did pretty much use that strategy! thanks for the advice!

SurfKaster 06-05-2012 09:38 PM

Sweet dude. That's not too bad for TTL. I look forward to the pics.
