Spare Tire Covered Or Not - Explain

Lets see how many Jeepers use a tire cover on their spare. Please explain why or why not.

Chris M 06-05-2012 11:15 AM

Nope. I just don't want to buy one.

I use this tan one, because it matches my top,and because it hides my little 30" spare tire, mostly to hide the tiny spare tire though.....

Renaissance_Redneck 06-05-2012 11:22 AM

I simply like the look of the tire on there without it being covered.

IslandTJ 06-05-2012 12:08 PM

No cover - as it would block out my 3rd brake light (mounted in the center of the wheel).

JIMBOX 06-05-2012 01:24 PM

:whistling: I use one on my trailer, cause I like the LOGO-

Nope. Would rather spend money on something cooler for my jeep!

Noshow13 06-05-2012 01:41 PM

I don't have one, & it's not on my priority list either.

mcdull 06-05-2012 01:48 PM

Soft vinyl cover for $20.

I admit it looks much much better without the cover.
But the wheel gets dirty quick and collects things dropped to it. When I walked around it, my clothes got accidentally rubbed on the wheel and got dirty marks.
With a cover, it's much easier to wipe it clean.

The cover is just plain black, might put a cool decal on it later.

I like the look of a big tire on the back without a cover.

JTjeep64 06-05-2012 02:52 PM

If you have a man sized tire on the back, no need for a cover.

JKralph 06-05-2012 02:59 PM

I think it looks better without a cover. Plus, I'm not really sure why a tire needs to be covered...

Lol, that is awesome

TJDave 06-05-2012 03:19 PM

I have never covered the spare tire once I started the progression from stock tires, to 32's, then 33's, and now 35's.

And like IslandTJ, it would cover my third brake light which is also in the center of my spare.

I did however keep my stock cover, and I now use it on my Jeep hauler.

I'm too cheap to buy the only one I really like... the older style Palm Tree Sahara logo one. And that is the only one would match my dark Kahki top too so... I am running naked and its not bothering me at all.

Irieblue 06-05-2012 08:14 PM

Yes. Hot South Florida sun would eat it up if uncovered.

MrSig 06-06-2012 05:06 AM

In South Florida our trail have a lot of mud, sand and water and it make the spare if covered nasty. I don't know what Irieblue is talking about. I have had no cover for many years just like the rest of the guys I wheel with and all 5 of my tires look the same.

O_M_Jeep 06-06-2012 05:09 AM

I havent looked too hard, but havent found one to fit a 33", it would be nice to avoid sun damage, but its not a priority

joemd60 06-06-2012 05:13 AM

When I had my Jeep, I found the spare tire cover trapped moisture and dirt. Besides, I find Jeeps look better without them.

PecosRiver 06-06-2012 06:49 AM

Nope. Last time I used a cover it became a home to spiders. Lots of spiders.

Do you park outside?

Irieblue 06-06-2012 08:41 AM

I'd rather go uncovered, but parking outside is rough on the tire. On a related note, how big a tire can you go before you need to get a new mount?

countrybassist 06-06-2012 09:57 AM

I've just never found the need to cover it.

igf1r 06-06-2012 10:25 AM

It looks so far the majority do not cover and feel the ware on the tire is good so all look the same. The point is to find out if the tire cover really is needed for a SUV. We now most spare tires for cars are never seen until a flat but in the case of Jeep its a full matching tire and can be swaped without having to fix the flat asap.

Keep posting

hbgirl 06-06-2012 10:30 AM

Mine is nakey. Looks better without, especially after getting new wheels/tires. Sun gets hot here in TX too, but I never think about covering it.

LawMoose 06-06-2012 10:35 AM

People steal them. For what I don't know they can't me worth much

wwch99tj 06-06-2012 11:04 AM

Nope I bought the matching spare to show it off not cover it :thumb:

80:20 rule most folks who commented want to see it off, Any comments from the ones who keep it on?

jeff_in_rc 06-06-2012 05:38 PM

My Jeep did not come with one so it's nakid!
But I think my wife got me one for Fathers Day, time will tell.

AV8R 06-06-2012 06:04 PM

The cover was on from the PO. It's nearly toast from years of sun. I'll ditch it when I get my lift and larger tires this summer.

I like the nekkid look better.
