There is something to be said about living dangerously.

Indeed. I'd say my JK is as safe as a TANK compared to my CJ5!

Jeep1Dennis 06-05-2012 01:48 PM

My Jeep's side impact rating is certainly a LOT better than my motorcycle's!!!
;)

I guess the journalist couldn't think of anything to write about.

The co-relationship between safety and sales number made by the author is really dumb. The sales figures have nothing to do with the safety rating but the life cycle. It usually, if not always, sells best the first year or 2 and gradually decreases because of competitons and less interest until a mid-term refreshes and upgrades.

IMO, it's better to see if sales figure have been getting lowered for used car when the new cars are now much safer.

I feel safer in my Jeep than in my Pontiac G5. If I got hit in the side by an SUV or pick-up, that bumper is coming through my window and into my face.

Annienaaron09 06-05-2012 02:37 PM

Has anyone got into a wreck in their wrangler? I'm pretty sure they are safer than most think

Jared66 06-05-2012 03:37 PM

Fell asleep in my jku. Into a 4 ft ditch. Pushed the front axle back 8 inches bent all the conyroll arms blew out frot right tire. Just puy a smitty bumper on the front 2 days before drove through a telephone poll. Not even whiplash. No damage other then the suspension either. The bumper didnt even bend. And the pole exploded and nearly fell back on me. Hung by 1 high voltage wire left on top. Solid rigs.

have to remember to the absurd amount of saftey gear going into other cars and trucks its not that there UNSAFE its just not as safe

OIIIIOersCreepers 06-05-2012 05:10 PM

havent taken any side impact accidents on wranglers. but in my experience, side impacts are bad no matter what. neck snaps or head hits own door or hits grill of other vehicle...no real surviving even at slow speeds. granted some cars that have tons of side impact air bags DO help with head injuries, usually this saves bad head injuries, leaving usually only pelvic, arm, rib and/or leg bone injuries. i have the side impact air bag on my jeep for SOME protection. also the higher the vehicle the safer....that always works on the wives for the reason to buy the big lift and tires!

Wrangler_Man11 06-05-2012 05:12 PM

A vehicle is only as dangerous as the person driving it. I feel just as safe in my heep with the top and doors off as I feel in my F-150.

JeepinDad 06-05-2012 05:17 PM

I own the second most dangerous according to this article. Our Colorado is more comfortable than the Jeep but I guess the Jeep is safer. Oh well, you only live once.

Not to be THAT GUY, but I walked away from being t boned by a fire truck (doing between 35 and 45 mph) in my old Subaru Impreza (ya long story about that one). Apparently the guy upstairs was watching out for me. Walked away with a bloodly nose from the steering wheel airbag and a scrapped knuckle.

A little over a year ago I got hit by a State tandem dump truck with a front and side plow fully loaded with salt. It did just under $12,000 damage to my Jeep. I suffered a lot of bruising, a concussion, and cracked ribs. I also drive a truck simular to the one that hit me for my city job and have seen the damage done to cars when they are hit. I'll keep my unsafe Jeep.

I have, It was my fault completely for being a reckless teen. I was on my way home on a summer night from the beach, I was going pretty fast if I remember I was in fifth gear came around a long turn into a sharp turn, slammed onto the breaks ,they locked up and the jeep slid off the road into a tree going about 50. It was totaled but I was perfectly fine, I had two scratches in my forehead, but other than that I was fine. So I bought a new jeep, the one I crashed is my profile pix. And this is what I have now......

Interesting the JKU is worse than the JK, would not have guessed that.

Wow, glad to hear you were ok

HK_Runner 06-06-2012 06:40 PM

Good to know. It isn't fair to compare it to a Subaru or any "full" vehicle that focuses on safety, has fixed doors, B pillars, etc. They could improve it but the Wrangler sells so well and buyers do not complain about it, so why would Chrysler care!

I think it is rear and side impact hits above a certain mph (maybe 45) that could be worse than if you were in a Subaru or Volvo or another SUV. This is why I need a Hemi...so I can floor it and get out of the way. ;)

Agreed, I nearly got T-boned a couple weeks ago while on my Goldwing when a guy ran a red light. I'd have felt safer in my TJ.

Wow!! I can't believe the smart car, fiat 500, or any of the other tiny ass cars that are out there are not on that list. I will take my "death trap" jeep over any small car out there. I hit one of those and they are done.

i call shananigans on the Wrangler rating, granted i have a Rokmen front bumper. But i have been hit once head on while i was doing 38mph, and the other driver doing 20-25mph and i lost a fog light and thats it, here yota camry was trasheddddd

also been hit on the side by a kid blowing a stop sign at about 30 and had no issues. told the insurance the axles were bent and i got a set of Ten factory axles from Northridge4x4 courtesy of the other driver:dance:

i did lose my center cap for my wheel tho, that was the worst. i had just painted the "jeep" engraved part black
