Good Jeep Mechanic around Largo/Clearwater/Tampa?

I've got a few electric gremlins and other issues that are driving me crazy. I don't think I have the skills to fix these issues.

Does anyone know of a good mechanic in the area? I live in Clearwater, work in Largo. Would consider going to Tampa. Want someone competent, relatively quick and not going to rip me off.

I tried getting the GoJeepsters guy to call me back and he hasn't returned my call. Anyone know anyone who might be able to fix these issues?

is that all west coast ?

denisbaldwin 06-07-2012 04:42 AM

Yeah, west coast of Florida. Basically, anyone north of Sarasota or south of Holiday/Hudson/Port Richey would be ideal.

Can't seem to keep the Jeep running. I've replaced every part of the fuel and electric systems now that could go bad, save the ECU and the ignition. I'm doing both of those on Friday.

Want to come help? :D

So it will start, but not stay running? What engine do you have? I would be inclined to make a trip down to you next week, say Tuesday or Wednesday evening. Maybe I can help, maybe not. Still going to do the ECU and ignition (I assume you mean ignition module)?

sig25 - This is the 2.5. It will start and will stay running idle. When I give it gas (feathering it seems to work, straight to the floor kills the engine) it will run and drive for an indeterminate amount of time. Sometimes, this goes 100 feet. Sometimes it'll go for 1-2 miles. Then it dies and won't start again for a while.

I did mean the ECU and Ignition module. I have both of them at my house ready to go in. If you want to help, that would be awesome. Would be glad to pay you for the support.

I think either something is grounding out but I want to eliminate parts known to cause this issue.

I always hear good things about Xtremejeep, however, I got a bad impression of them when I called to ask for the price to install aftermarket bumpers (I already have the bumpers) and they quoted me close to $600 for front and rear bumper saying it will take approx 7 hours to accomplish. Really? 7 hours to take off/bolt on bumpers???

Flatfoot75 - I'm getting similar results from many of the Jeep and 4x4 shops. Quotes of $1000+ to diagnose this issue :\

Available tuesday or wednesday evening? Of course this depends on what this T.S./Hurricane is going to do.

I'm out of town until Friday for work. I'll be back Friday night and all weekend. Would any of those times work for you?

If it's the guy off Ulmerton, he's known to be incredibly expensive and incredibly slow. I've seen a lot of Jeeps sit out there for months at a time in various states of repair so I'm only going to go there if I can't figure this out myself or through less expensive means.

Alternatively, I spoke to another Jeep specialist in St. Petersburg last week. "Could be the ignition or fuel.. most likely going to run you a few thousand dollars to figure it out because it's so old."

When I explained to him everything I had done so far and asked him what was left he said, "I can't trust any of that. I'm going to have to replace every part you've already replaced to be sure."

So... hoping to get some local help instead of one of the "pros".
