I recently bought a 1964 CJ-5, so I am new to the "do it yourself" stuff. It has a new gas tank and fuel line. However, I noticed there is a shut off valve on the fuel line just below the floorboard.
1. Why would someone put a shut off valve on the fuel line?
2. Is this something that is better off not on there?

I thought so to but wasn't sure so I didn't say anything

occasionally, older carbs will allow all the fuel in the line to siphon back into the tank, making it a royal PITA to get em started up in the morning. A line cutoff would be a very good "jury rig" fix to alleviate that.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense now. I was thinking if it was something the prior owner put on thinking he was going to have the jeep sit for long periods of time. I ended up deciding to remove the valve.
