Steering box-pitman arm-track bar-bump stop>
After new shocks and steering damper and alignment, my 03 Wrangler (4" lift...33" tires) still jumps around the road. I have to replace the steering gear box-adjusting the screw on top does nothing, and steering wheel has too much play in it.
Can you tell by the pic if I have a drop down pitman arm?
Also the front trackbar has all stock brackets...no drop down extentions. Do I need one....or maybe an adjustable track bar....or neither one.
I know these questions are old for you jeep pro's out there...I'm new at this and really depend on your knowledge.
I am on my cell phone so I can't say much other than just say yes you have a dropped pitman arm which should not have been installed. A dropped pitman arm can cause bump steer which is what it sounds like you have.
I agree with Jerry. You need a stock pitman arm.
An adjustable track bar is advised with the 4" lift you have. Not all adjustable track bar are created equal and there are only three available today I would buy. Two of the three are made by currie and the other is the newer jks design. Currie being the first choice!
It also looks like you don't have bump stop extensions. I would suggest getting some if you like your fenders. And you don't want to kill your shocks, or bind your springs.
Looks like I have the same problem on my TJ. Dropped pitman and no adjustable track bar. Can I just get new ones and change them? are any other changes required?
