Is a Header worth it?
So my 92 was having major power loss. Turns out it was a clogged cat and I also have a cracked exhaust manifold. I am bypassing the cat but wondering what to buy for the manifold. Does a header really give you much performance increase over a new exhaust manifold with expansion joints like this one.

Original Replacement Parts 4883385K - Exhaust Manifold Kit for 91-99 Jeep® Wrangler YJ & TJ, Cherokee XJ & Grand Cherokee ZJ with 4.0L 6 Cylinder Engine - Quadratec

That replacement part is essentially a header. And you arent gonna beat that price.

A stock cast manifold from chrysler is around 250 if you can find one. I was told by the local jeep dealer that they arent in the catalog anymore, but they are still out there.

I would take the 1 from Qtec myself but i have a 4.2L.

Thats what I'll use on my new engine and and a head pipe for a Grand Cherokee to by pass the cat.

Would stepping up to a Borla or Gibson type header get much noticeable performance increase. It's a lot of extra money but if it would be a improvement I may be willing to spend extra.

I would think anything is better than the stock exhaust.

With out a lot of high performance work on your engine you may not tell any thing, not even on a dyno.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I don't plan on doing any engine modifications or anything so sounds like the full on headers wont really be worth the money. I am going to order the replacement from my original post and enjoy a better flowing system. Thanks. The jeep already runs 1000 times better by getting rid of that clogged cat.
