Oh S**t bar off

Eying to remove dash. I need to get the bad off anyone know how?? Need help!!!!

O_M_Jeep 06-10-2012 04:33 PM

if your talking about the grab bar on the passenger side there are lock-nuts on the back of it, it has studs that go through the dash, they are tough to get to if you dont have a good set of 1/4" drive tools

2 10mm nuts on the inside .
Take the glove box out you'll fill them one on each side

It is a B*TCH...there's a thread on here somewhere with pics. I'll see if I can find it. You need monkey hands to get in there. 2 bolts.

P.S.
Getting it back on is more difficult than taking it off...

Remove the passenger front speaker, and unscrew the one screw keeping the plastic A/C ducts in place. By removing the front speaker and getting the A/C duct out of the way, it become very easy to get your hand and a wrench/small socket in there. I figured this out after 45 mins of acrobatics and swearing. I'll see if I have pics.

The pictures in the link that S3nt3nc3d provided show exactly where the nuts/bolts are.

Remove the speaker:

Unscrew the one screw holding the duct work in place and bend it out of the way with your fingers (it isn't needed). Deteach the ductwork and pull it out:

Should allow you to reach in easily and get a ratcheting box wrench or small socket in there:

I got the bar off does anyone know how to get the airbag panel off?

Patrick H 06-10-2012 10:45 PM

You don't need to remove any of that to pull the dash out. Just the two nuts for the airbag right above/ behind the glove box.

Doublesnook 06-10-2012 11:39 PM

I am pulling all the panels out to paint and need to get the airbag panel out... I was wondering if anyone knew how to pull it out are there screws or just pull???!!!!!

98GunmetalTJ 06-11-2012 03:22 AM

I believe S3nt3nc3d and I covered how to remove the airbag panel. Several obvious visible screws once you remove the glove box. More visible screws once you pop off the vent panel across the top of the dash. The rest of the panel is riveted to a cross bar. To remove this crossbar, follow the link S3nt3nc3d provided and the suggestion I posted above - two 10mm nuts/bolts. One behind the speaker/air duct, the other can be reached by removing the center section (radio, A/C) of the dash.

NICE! I'll have to remember that next time...I looked and looked to see if there'd be an easy way to access that and I just couldn't do it. I think I ended up putting the thing back with only one bolt and hoped if I ever got in a wreck, the panel would blow apart before it blew OFF. I tried and tried to get that screw back in and just kept dropping it so I gave up...:whistling:

Gonna be repainting the dash in the near future so I'll put it back together right this time.
