kinda thinking of adding one

kjeeper10 06-10-2012 05:24 PM

Who cares.... No

What's the question? Lol

jmm0122 06-10-2012 05:48 PM

No but if you have a soft top it will give people incentive to break in and steal it. If I where you I would get some sort of trunk lid cover to keep people out.

tomthbomb 06-10-2012 05:59 PM

If you think it does, then it does.
If you think it doesn't then it doesn't.
Don't worry about what the crowd here thinks.
99.9% of them will never see your Jeep.

71K5 06-10-2012 06:15 PM

You could add a Candleabra to the subwoofer and play Liberace tunes at 100 decibels from it.
If it nevers leaves town for the back country, it's still a Mall Crawler.

mxman122 06-10-2012 06:25 PM

Yes it does.... I can't imagine what you where thinking. I added upgraded speaker and tweeters Saturday BUT NOT a new subwoofer. As if........

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I agree. I did the Kicker speaker upgrade.
But I would never compromise my shopping bag capacity by adding a subwoofer.......NEVER!....NEVER!.....NEVER!!
I should have bought a 4dr.......D*&M@T!

Man up.............:punk:

Look into a flat subwoofer that can be mounted under your seats. Great sound and still a bit of security.

I8up 06-11-2012 08:04 AM

Wow

countrybassist 06-11-2012 08:07 AM

Do it bro :punk:

I priced out a setup and I'm probably going to purchase one, but my reservations are not whether or not it makes my jeep seems like a mall crawler.

Issue 1 - A subwoofer in a cloth top jeep will not be very effecient as in a hard top (I own a hard top). A sub in a hard top will not be as effecient as if it had sound deading or in a vehicle that has a traditional top and sound deadening. I don't want to waste money on something that's going to not give me the sound I want. And no, I don't want to have it loud enough so everyone around be is listening to my music.

Issue 2 - Amplifiers + water don't mix. Before mounting an amplifier I need to make and enclosure or find a place to put it so that if it rains or if it gets wet in the Jeep, the amp isn't affected by it. The other issue with this is that if I remove it for times like this, I can't very well leave a live wire from the battery laying in the back; that would have to be disconnected. If the wires did get wet I'd have to worry about corrosion.

I think there was something else, but it just seems like it would be a bigger hassle from practical reasons and not because someone would have a negative opinion of me.

If your worried about water get a marine system

SirGeorgeKillian 06-11-2012 10:23 AM

If you go with a smaller box, some of this could help you get a little more kick...

Where did such a silly notion come from?

Wow that is silly.

snowbrd84 06-11-2012 11:46 AM

I dont get the question, if you put a sub in, you would hopefully put it somewhere it wouldn't be visible so that it doesnt get stolen, so in that case, how the hell would anyone know that you have it, therefore how would it seem like a mall crawler (if having a sub made it seem like a mall crawler to begin with).

I enjoy some bass, so I will be putting in a sub/amp that I have laying around into mine when I get around to it. I could care less if someone thinks it makes it seem like a mall crawler, it is all about what you want for your Jeep.

Hell, put in a 1500 Watt system, you could use it to get the mud off after wheeling...

Dextreme 06-11-2012 05:16 PM

So many years ago I went thought the Subwoofer phase (300watts -2x12"), the problem because "added stress and paranoia" that you have to be careful were you leave/park your vehicle. It will begin to haunt you and will be tough to relax.

After a few years, 12's got stolen at apt complex...so then I run out an buy a parameter alarm system to protect my new 12"s. Then it was constantly being triggered by false alarms and people messing with me (became a joke at 2-3 in the morning).

So, now in my older age I am subwoofer/amp free and can park my Jeep with doors and top off without worrying about it...nothing to steal except for the Jeep itself. I suppose they could steal the soundbar, but why?

Happy to be paranoid free! :thumb:

Have a Kicker sub and audio system. Do you want better sound? If ya do, just do it and enjoy.
I have the Kicker sub. In a soft top. You don't see it with the top down so in theory the theft possibility is lessened. Except the bass is ridiculous. It kind of screams "aftermarket audio." Little irony there. Really a hard top is no different- there isn't Dynamat from a sound perspective.. I've had 2 vehicles broken into for audio- and neither were convertibles.
The Kicker amps fit under the dash. The sub enclosure is waterproof.

whiteyj 06-11-2012 10:36 PM

Yes......Just add the 4X2 badges and you're all set. :D:D

I was in USAC comps few years ago. I had 8 15's in my truck on 39's and my buddy had 2 15's in a banpass in the back of a CJ5. We still wheeled the piss out of them.

So I would say no a woofer dosent make it a mall crawler.

Love kale co, never had a bad product from them.

BagerX2 06-12-2012 06:54 AM

I have a cheap 12 and amp. Yes that sub is plasti-dipped...

The Korean 06-12-2012 07:36 AM

I like my tunes with bass (listen to alot of dubstep, country, and rock... well hard rock). The single 10" has just the right amount, not to overpowering, but not to soft.

My setup and only reason I leave the back seat in (previous owner did the install)...

Do I wheel it...?

Does the seat rattle at all? I am assuming you've never taken that seat apart to see if the prior owner added a bunch of Dynhamat or fill?... I would think the metal components in the seat would make a racket after while. I love my Kicker sub but it locks into the the rear seat bracket- the seat has to be in and down for the sub to lock in. I was wondering about under the seat like yours.
