Bestop Safari Bikini & Header

I order both from Quad. The header went on no problem -- just two bolts. But I'm having the damnest time getting the front plastic strip on the top to stay in the channel on the header. Spent an hour trying and no luck. I get one side in and as I try to get the other side in, the first side pops out.

Am I doing something wrong!?!

Thanks,
Elvis

I think it needs some pressure to hold it on. Keep putting he top on and start to snug it up and have another person keep it in the header.

Slide it through the header channel from one side untill you get it to half way. then go around to the other side and pull it the rest of the way. It also helps if you rest the top on the sport bars while you slide it through.

I used to have the same problem but solved it by glue-ing the header to the channel. Now it takes me 10 mins to put the top on. Then I just roll it up when done.

What I meant was glue-ing the safari plastic strip into the channel. It save alot of headaches that you are experiencing. I dab the header channel with strong adhesive then slide the safari top into the channel and use a C-clamp to keep the bond overnight. This is done with the top un-installed, laid out on the garage floor. Unclamped and installed next day, works like a charm. It's been off/on weekly for 2 mos, no problems, 10 mins install time. Of course this method won't work if you are using the same header for multiple tops.

when mine was brand new it was a pain in the butt to get in the channel just like you are mentioning. Once the plastic strip is formed a bit to the channel by being installed it will become easier to install. Ask someone to help the first time, it's much easier if you have someone holding the end in so you don't have to keep running back and forth swearing as the opposite side continuously pops out!

I use a SMALL amount of pressure to hold the plastic strip in place by lightly tightening the straps in the back...but that is for a Bikini top should work for Safari I would think?

Excellent ideas! Thanks everyone. Glad to know it isn't just me or faulty product. Appreciate the help.

I have the drill in header. Never had a single problem with that.

*Also, I bought my Bestop Safari Top from an eBay seller jeepaccessories for $49 brand new shipped. They threw in the drill in channel for $20. You may be able to return yours to Quadratec if it is too much of a PITA. Good luck!

I just bought a bikini top and no drill header which are in basically brand new condition because the guy only used it for one summer and the top looks bran new with no fade or tear.

I got it at a steal for $5 off Craigslist for both the windshield channel and bikini top by bestop

Mine was a pain the first time. Second time was alot easier.

YouTube the install instructions. That helped me. I also had to get my wife to help. A second set of hands come in handy.

The above issue is one of the two reasons I stopped using my no-drill header and went with the permanently mounted drill style header. The no-drill header is not only often a PITA to get secured to the windshield, the forward edge of the top is generally always a PITA to get to stay in the header long enough to get the rest of it in place.

I'll stick with the drill-type permanently mounted header which is a LOT easier and faster to get the bikini or safari top mounted with. :)

What I've done is loop the inside strap to the footman loop and not tighten. Buckle the other straps (minus the velcro ones up front). Put the header into the channel, then pull on the inside strap to tighten it.

Hook the bikini top into the header last, hook every thing else first starting with the 2 A pilliars, its a whole lot easier

x2 ^^^ That's how I do it!

Elvis, once you have it figured out you should be able to do it by yourself no problem :)

I install mine, by myself, all the time :thumb:
