weight of stock rim and tire
 
Probably been asked before but couldn't find it..can anyone tell me how much the stock tire and rims weigh.????I have the 17 inch sport rims and stock goodyears..I'm looking to upgrade to a 4.5 offset rim and 33s and am trying not to go much heavier if possible

Well I don't know about the sports but, the factory 17" Rubi wheels weight around 24lbs. The tires you can look up on the manufacturer website. My Wheel/Tire combo ended up being about 2lbs heavier than stock.

54 pounds, 17" Sport wheel and Goodyear Wrangler P255/75R17.

96 pounds, 17" REV wheel and Hankook Dynapro AT LT315/70R17

There's no way a stock setup only weighs 54 lbs.

The stock 17" wheel is about 25 lbs. The stock Good-for-a-year tire is 36 lbs. The stock BFG KM tire is 48 lbs. So you're looking at 61 lbs. for a Sport, 73 lbs. for a Rubi.

FWIW... I've run multiple wheel/tire combos on my JKU over the past year and have logged all my mileage and going from the stock setup to an aftermarket alloy with 33" tires cost me about 2-3 miles per gallon, which is about $40/month for the average driver. That's a pretty steep penalty to pay if your JK is a daily driver.

Good catch. I guess I just recalled wrong or fat fingered it. I got 59 pounds.
This tire has about 30000 miles of travel so maybe 2 pounds off from new would be about right.

The weight of the whole pkg does matter but the tire choice has the most impact on the equation due to rolling resistance and the weight of the tire has the greatest effect on centrifugal force due to its distance from center. The stock gy road tire on a 12 lb heavier wheel would still yield better mpg than the stock rubi tire on a lighter wheel

I agree as even though the total weight increased, my tire weight was a less than stock and my wheel weight was more. With the 33's I have, I get 1-2 mpg better than stock.

Did you recallibrate the speedo or are you figuring MPG manually..what do the 33 nittos weigh..Do they actually weigh less than the stock Goodyear

Speedo was re-calibrated with a AEV Procal, I also calculated manually to verify in the beginning. I have a Rubicon so the Nitto's (just under 46 lbs) weigh less than the stock BF Goodrich tires (48 lbs), but not less than the Goodyears. They also have a more pavement friendly tread. I didn't actually use a scale I just went by the manufactures specs. It is also going to depend on what gears/transmission you have in yours.

Just to confirm what has already been said, now that I have a '12 with the 17" wheels and GY tires I threw one on my scales and it was 62 lbs. brand new. Not bad at all for a tire/wheel combo that's in the 32" class. I guess that's why I'm getting close to 20 MPGs out of this thing.
