Moving to US Virgin Islands

Hi everybody. Had a Grand Cherokee in the states for 15 years - now I'm moving to St. Croix and thinking of a new Wrangler Unlimited. Tough to decide about a 2012 or 2013 since there's a huge premium if buying down there and I'm moving soon. Just combing the forum for advice.

Cheers,

Welcome, St Croix is a beautiful island. I was just there last month visiting, and my buddy who lived there at the time drove us around in his jeep. Being a tiny island, there is not a whole lot of places to drive to, but the scenic drive bordering the turquoise blue water cannot be beat!

Are you an AME by any chance?

Actually Naval Flight Surgeon. Will get the AME when I get a chance - joining a partner there who already is an AME. Looking for a up chit?

Not till this winter! But if you're up and running by then, I might consider jumpseating to STX for a weekend. I did some diving there this last time, and there are a few more spots I want to check out.

Once you get there, don't forget to drive on the left side! I almost killed myself leaving the parking lot of the airport, turned head-on to an SUV!

I did the same in May. Drove about 10 minutes down a long hill at 6 am before getting to an intersection at the bottom which made me realize what lane I was in.

Look me up at Virgin Islands Ear Nose and Throat. Will definitely be up and running by winter. Hopefully with a new Jeep - mainly deciding whether to wait for the new 2013 colors - not too crazy about the "bag of Skittles" palette and hoping for a good blue color. Also will surely get screwed on a trade-in down there versus doing it up here and shipping the car down.

Yea, there is a considerable mark-up for all vehicles down in the caribbean. But i hear the duty charges on shipping a vehicle can be pretty steep as well.

I'd prefer buying a 2013 model, but only because the 2012's are first years with the new pentastar engine.

Check out this page below for the 2013 colors. True Blue Pearl is a color option. There's also a sticky in the JK tech forum about all the color and options.

Thank for the color guide. True Blue Pearl is indistinguishable from black to my eye. Maybe it's my monitor calibration.

Shipping turns out to be not very expensive - still exploring that.

Lots of reading to do. Thanks for the welcome, guys. Let you know what happens.
