Texas sends request for European Jeep parts assistance

Howdy!

I have a US spec 2010 JK. I've turned over every stone I can think of stateside trying to find a way to buy the same 2.8L VM that European models have as an option from the factory.

I could go with the 2.8 CDR that was available in the Liberty, but that would require custom wiring harness and computer work and even then its questionable as to whether or not everything will work properly.

So I've decided that it has to be a Euro motor specifically for the Wrangler. Installation will be much easier and all accessories and gauges will work properly.

Finding one of those engines has turned into a much more difficult task than I anticipated.

That's why I come to you. I can't stand this minivan motor any longer. It's gutless and gets worse fuel mileage than my 3/4 ton GMC Duramax.

I love everything else about my Jeep.

The other option is a Mopar Hemi crate motor. But I don't really want a gasoline engine, for various reasons.

Any leads on someone I could talk to about shipping me a complete 2.8L for the Wrangler would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Getting it registered would be a bureaucratic nightmare. If it could be done at all.

I'm pretty sure you can't do it, sorry. But euro spec doesn't meet us dot and EPA 07 standards... So I don't think it would be imported or pass inspection if your state has it

So... It would but the import fees would be insane. As for ordering one..... cheat go to the German Ebay site. WWW.Ebay.de . check it out there. As for delivery and getting it through customs. It wouldn't be too hard with the proper paperwork.

As for the statement "Wouldn't it be easier to buy a German spec"? no. You have to change the exhaust and Glass mainly. there are a few other things that need changed but not many. mainly o2 sensors and pressure gauges.

I hope I helped.

It would be easier to install a 4BT cummins or the 1.9L VW TDI. The 4BT would be my choice, however Petersen's 4Wheel magazine did a story.
