Lock box/"trunk"?

Ladies and Gentlemen...
Recently purchased a 2012 4 door Sahara.
Looking for a recommendation for a secure lock box/"trunk" that will hold something just a bit larger than a piece of carry on luggage.
Thanks in advance.
Doug B.

If you have a four door, this will fit behind the bask seats. If you have a two door, the back seat needs to be removed.

Thanks for the help!
One Tuffy coming up....:thumb:

I got the Tuffy box and I'm having one hell of a time installing the damn thing. After I finally got it installed and put my top down, the bolt on the side brackets scratched the living crap out of my soft-top frame.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Jay bird 06-25-2012 07:58 PM

How do you take the tray or top off the Tuffy? When I put mine in, I put it on by going over the back seats but I need to adjust and can't get it back out. I need to adjust because I have slam tailgate pretty hard to close.

How well did the Full trunk seat on the 2-door?

I have my rear seat out and would like a closed trunk.

Pull it back and lift slightly, then push forward until the rollers disengage.

I'd recommend the tuffy. Its not super easy to take the deck out and put it back in. I have to fiddle with it for awhile as the sides are actually wider than the deck. You kinda have to hook one side and then pull it to the other. But overall its a nice piece, doesn't rattle, and will serve me well.

After placing an order in Late June, directly with Tuffy...was told a 2 week back order. Now....was just told that the back order has been exetended to the end of July. Are you kidding me?
Totally unacceptable. Order cancelled(or hopefully cancelled).
Now I have to look elsewhere....what a PITA....

Well hang in there. Most of what I order has to go on back order as well since the demand is very high for the cool stuff.

I ordered about father's day, and it came last week.

This was from 4WP.

Just installed the Tuffy security box in my 2012 2dr JK. Used some spray bedliner to cover the chrome hardware and added a cheap cut it yourself carpet and cargo net to complete the look.

Took the back seat out completely as none of my friends are young enough to be able to get in there without breaking a hip.

FYI about the Tuffy box lids: there are two hex-head bolts on each side (in the wider cutout areas) that hold the mounting guides on...if someone removes those, they can remove your lid and get into the Tuffy box.

Found this out while attaching some tie-down anchors to my lid.

Spot welding or a bit of red Loctite will fix the problem.

update on this smaller metal box install:
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/448/img0349xi.jpg

So far, despite its size, it secures surprising amount of stuff I like to have keep under lock.

Total cost: under $10 for mounting brackets; about 2 hours install time figuring out how to do it the way that works best.
Bolted to seat brackets. May upgrade padlock with heavier design.

Had to line the lid/lock with a little rubber seal strip to keep it quiet.

I have to say that the install of the Tuffy 275-01 was pretty damn easy.
Directions were fairly easy to follow.

tiger3 07-26-2012 05:51 AM

I am thinking about putting one of these on the inside. Similar to JeeperJake's idea. :thumb: I want secure storage, but do not want to lose all the dog storage with a box taking up the entire bed area.

https://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-192-...m-lockbox.aspx

I am thinking this may fit inside, but have not measured it. It may not fit the budget.....
I am surprised no one has come up with a box that sits close to the front seats that uses the back seat brackets as mounting and does not consume the entire area.

Using the Tuffy enclosure as well..but recently viewed this. It costs less but I have no experience or seen reviews.Aries Automotive - JEEP PRODUCTS

I would buy that one for sure...:thumb: If they only made it in a 2 door model.

I decided to pick up a tool chest box from Tractor Supply, they have two sizes (32inch @ $70 and 44inch @ $100), see below. I ran a computer security cable through two holes I drilled in the box and locked it to the rear seat frame. Inside the box I have a metal plate that the cable runs through so somone can't just simply cut the box where the cable goes into it.

I kinda like this one.

Here's a pic of the 32", the 44" could fit, it would be a tight squeeze.

Locking storage installed.

I finally found an inexpensive locking tool box for the rear! :thumb:

I purchased a LARIN vehicle storage box from Costco. I made some mounting brackets to mount it on the forward rear seat mounts. I also added a tie down point on each side because I lost the ability to use the seat mounts as tie downs with the box in stalled. The box is 12x13x35 and it fits great and it does not take up much space in the rear. It actually hangs over the rear foot wells slightly, but allows access from behind the seat for some added "slightly hidden" storage. I may modify the mount at a later point to make it easier to remove/install. It is connected through the 2"x2"x12" aluminum bracket I made with (4) U bolts that bolt inside the tool box.

I still have room for the dog!! I did not want a large box, but just something to keep valuables (air pump, straps, tools and laptop (daily driver)) in while running with soft top. I think this will work just fine.
