Opinions on 48" Jack (Motomaster)
Good evening, Everybody...
I just noticed that Canadian Tire is offering a sale on a 48" "Farm Jack"...
$49.99 (reg $89.99)
capacity: 3 tons (2721 kg)
lift range: 6" - 42 and 1/8 "
Net Weight: 31 lb (14kg)
The sale ends tomorrow so I was hoping to get a few opinions if this jack is suitable for use with a 2012 JKU Rubicon. I'd like to use if for my general purpose jack and also as an emergency come along when a winch is not available.
I know nothing about the quality of this product line, and am just learning about Jeep / vehicle recovery, so there may be something obvious here that precludes using this jack.
If that's the case, please let me know, or if you have any info to help me select a proper high lift jack feel free to chime in.
Thanks for your help and your patience. :Thanx:
What do you mean by "General purpose jack?" If you mean for changing tires...dont bother.
A hilift (farm jack in your case) has it's place I am sure, but changing tires is not that place. In most cases using a bottle jack is better suited for general purposes...they are more stable and much safer. Also, if you think about how a "hilift" works, if you are gonna change a tire or something you will have to jack from the bumper which means you have to take up all the slack in the suspension before a tire leaves the ground. It's a lot easier to throw a bottle jack (or similar) under the axle, give it a couple pumps and lift the tire that way.
On all of the trips I have gone on, I have yet to see someone pull out a hilift jack for recovery or anything. Granted you are out with a group of people, the use of a hilift becomes pretty rare.
Don't waste your money on a "farm jack" that isn't made by Hi-Lift.
They suck for changing tires. I carry a bottle jack for that.
Get a nice 6 ton bottle jack and case for $30 on Amazon. Those things work great!
