front license plate

Looking for some ideas to mount a license plate to a 2 inch bumper. Everything I find is for a 3 inch. Anyone else do this without drilling into the bumper?

BLK00TJ 07-01-2012 03:29 PM

I've seen a lot of folks use zipties.

2"? That's pretty narrow isn't it?

Put 4 strong magnets between the bumper and the plate. I haven't tried it but might work.

2" pipe clamps.

X2. Just bolt the clips to the licence plate. Yank the plate off when you are out playing. :thumb:

Thanks! What did you use to hold the plates to the pipe clamps?

dcstewart 07-02-2012 02:19 PM

Zip ties. Get them from the never ending supply in my glove box.

It's a license plate holder from the parts store.

I don't think there are any D cell maglite clips left in the state of Washington. I've looked everywhere. I guess Amazon it is.

njs552 02-19-2016 11:26 PM

The maglite clamps should work good on a roller fairlead, or there are ready made clamp on fairlead license plate brackets for $20 if I remember right.

I dont even have a front license plate anymore. Haven't got pulled over yet either. YMMV

You 2 just woke up a dead thread from 2012 on how to mount a front license plate, who still has tube bumper anyways? Those where the 1st things I ripped off after I got my tj.

Agreed. Use that little magnifying glass in the top right corner. It's kinda like Google for the forum. 9 times out of 10 you're questions have an answer. As for the lisence plate. Zip ties. And a bumper that's worth something. Look up accidents with tube bumpers. You'll see. Bout as useful as putting a Honda civic bumper on your tj.

This thread may be 4 years old, but my Maglite clips are now 8. :)

I thought I was going to have to retire them when I switched to synthetic winch rope with a safety thimble.
But, there is still room to clip the plate underneath.

I bought them at a Wally World in Wa State.

And if you read the original post it is for a 2" "tube" bumper which is not the typical 3" thin metal tube bumper. There are many made out of 2" round steel
