Rampage Front Bumper Owners Q

Just had the bumper installed & wondering if the gap present between the bumper & the grill is suppose to be there?? Is they're a cover I'm missing or something?? Had the work done at Fortec.

Reuse the stock piece, just turn it back to front!

yep gap is there on mine. Don't put the plastic thing back on. Just one more spot to catch mud and rocks.

Nope. If you reuse the OEM piece backwards, the drain holes are there and do the job perfectly of draining any water.

unclesamsmisguidedchild 08-24-2012 11:47 AM

Still wouldn't put it back on.

NFRs2000NYC 08-24-2012 11:51 AM

Even IF you catch mud and rocks, I assume you wash your Jeep after wheeling no? I'd rather not have a nasty gap there personally.

Proxy404 08-24-2012 12:51 PM

Sweet, good info. This is the exact bumper I have on my list of "Things I NEED", ha.

JeepHerz 08-24-2012 02:18 PM

Literally installing mine tonight. Thanks for the fix idea. I do have a winch going on mine- I wonder if its gap-ed on purpose to accomodate a winch? I'll post photos as soon as I have it on.....(yay!)
I will say- I read some reviews that said weld jobs and construction were not up to par. Not the case on mine at all- looks great. The winch plate (only) is a little wavy in one spot- but you'll never see it. The weld joints are much better than the Smitty's I looked at and better than or the same as the WARN. I got the semi-gloss so I think mistakes would be even more glaring than on the flat black. The ARB was the best but I can't afford it.
For those looking at buying- Morris has the best price and offers a forum discount plus low charges to ship. However- in the end they were very kind to arrange pick-up for me at Rampage direct- which is 10 minutes from my office. No one else would bother looking into it for me.
The guys in the warehouse showed me new side steps that they'll be releasing soon if anyone is interested. They are very nice looking on a 4 door. Not for me personally because I want sliders/protection- but they do look good with the bumper. Nice for a DD.

Luckily, I haven't hit anything yet (knocks on wood) but IMHO, this bumper is built like a tank. It is just as solid as my buddie's AEV. The welds are thick and penetrate all the way through. I need the bumper to commit suicide in an accident. As we learned in school, energy is neither created nor destroyed, which means in an accident, if the bumper "holds up" that means it transferred all the energy into the body/frame. I want my bumper to get destroyed in an accident, but save the rest of the vehicle, including the front grill. This bumper seems like it will do the job. It is VERY thick in certain places, and thinner in others. Either way, I think it's well designed (geometrically) and IMHO, one of the best looking bumpers for the JK. I wish the winch was sunken in, but I guess we can't have it all.

You would assume wrong. I don't remember the last time I washed my jeep. But this is Arizona, rust is not an issue for me. I should post up pics of my rampage after the sawzall fell on it awhile back.:whistling:

I put my new Rampage bumper on on Friday. And got hit on Sunday. I was parked at McDonalds with a bunch of Jeeps for a trail run. A guy in a Cherokee (not part of our group) gunned it in reverse and rammed into me. I think he moved my Jeep about a foot- I know because I was standing on my rear bumper getting something off my seat . Granted the guy wasn't going fast but this was a dead-on metal to metal hit- same height vehicle and he had a bare metal bumper. My brand new bumper has a large scrape/chip (down to to the metal) in the D ring mount and a large scuff in another spot- but that's it. His bumper was a little dented. I'll post pics when I have my camera- but yes- the bumper is built like a tank. I have no doubts about it protecting me on a trail or road. If the other vehicle was anything other than a Jeep with a metal bumper- I am certain it wouldn't have done any damage at all.
Sigh. And the guy didn't even offer to buy me an English muffin.

JeepHerz 08-27-2012 04:34 PM

So here is the bumper- and the damage.
Install/note on bumper: I also re-used the factory spacer piece on install- though you can't see it here. Spacing/gap from from the new bumper to the factory side fenders is less than 3/4"- both side to side and top to bottom. In other words- the fit is very good as far as I am concerned. If anyone wants better pics let me know. There is a quarter sized spot in the finish where the texture is different on the paint/metal. I bought semi-gloss- with texture coat or flat black you'd never see it. You really have to stare at certain angles in certain lights- I couldn't even get it on film. No one at the Jeep event this weekend could see it. My primary goal is function- and it proved its worth.

Rob309 08-27-2012 05:35 PM

I just ordered the stubby the other day, looking forward to getting, and getting it mounted. I haven't found many reviews so it's good to be reading these post.

JeepHerz 08-27-2012 06:02 PM

One note: Rampage couldn't recommend a front skid plate that integrates with this bumper. My Body Armor skid plate does not fit. Alot of people don't run front skids so its not crucial, but FYI. I'll have my skid cut down.

Which Rampage bumper is this? I looked on QT and Morris but I'll be damned if I see it...

a link would be great or even a part number.

Thanks in advance - Drew

***Also does this except the factory fog lights or do you have to purchase the rampage lights***

I ordered mine from Morris, and they offer a 10% discount for being members here.

Rampage Front Recovery Bumper with Stinger and Light Cut Outs, Textured Black 88510

Proxy404 09-26-2012 10:23 AM

Sorry to wake up this thread but I just bought this bumper a little while ago. Bought a winch for it, got it on the winch plate and found out that I don't have the hardware to mount the winch plate to the bumper! Anybody here know what bolts I need to get?

G-Mike 09-26-2012 11:43 AM

Does some know the spacing on the mounting points for the fogs (or photo). I would like to put in Hella 90 Halogen fogs instead of the factory fogs which I don't have.

Pics or it didn't happen!
They were M12 or M14, basically 1/2"-5/8".

Same thing happened to me. I called Rampage and they sent me the bolts I needed. You can ask them and they can tell you what size so it would be faster, but I don't remember off hand, but you are not alone on this. Good luck.

Here's the bumper installed. Looks great and is solid as hell. Only thing wrong with it is a little drip on the powder coat and some scratches. No worse than I'll do to it and I can touch up with some bed liner.

And here's the winch, all hooked up with nowhere to go :/

Thanks for the quick replies! Good to know I'm not the only one. I have a couple hardware stores around so I'll pick them up tonight. Thanks!

JeepHerz 09-26-2012 01:23 PM

Yep- just remember I had to call for bolts/size too. If you want to confirm directly: 951-277-4949 (I don't see an 800 #.) Ask for Carlos. They're right down the street from me but I still just went to the hardware store and got higher grade bolts. Not that it did any good- the very last bolt to torque down broke in half. Not fun.
That's a big a** winch. I had to re-drill my plate to make my wee Warn fit. Good enough to pull me but I hope no JKUs ever need me to pull 'em. :)

Proxy404 09-26-2012 01:40 PM

Ouch, I'll make sure I don't over torque them. I figured I'd go with the slightly bigger winch. Haven't seen a whole lot about the Quadratec winches, but I figured I don't go out THAT much and for ~$375, even getting me out of a jam once or twice would be worth it. I think the winch is heavier than the bumper. The bumper weighed in at about 86 lbs out of the packaging. The ship weight of the winch was about 99 lbs!

Medic005 09-27-2012 08:26 AM

Just ordered the Rampage bumper from 4wd.com, used a 5% promo code (ju4wddis1) and paid $565 with free shipping, can't wait till it's delivered!

JeepHerz 09-27-2012 11:28 AM

Nice on the free shipping- that's a good deal. Morris gives a 10% forum discount but the shipping is probably more than that.
And Proxy- don't worry about torquing too much- you want that plate solid. We had a bad bolt- not only did it snap, it broke into pieces with a small screwdriver when we tried to tap it out.

Proxy404 09-27-2012 01:18 PM

Follow up on the bolts to mount the winch plate: M10s!

Steffen1601 09-28-2012 07:10 AM

After you installed the bumper, did the grill guard cast a shadow on the road when you drive at night with your headlights on?

Not that I noticed. I have stock headlights and they seem to project over the stinger so it's not hitting the bumper.

JeepHerz 09-28-2012 11:33 AM

Not for me either- stock headlights.
