Welding experience required for custom fab body?

What kind of welding experience should I get for custom building a body for my 06 TJ sport?

I have some "OK" Mig welding experience I just feel like that probably wont do the trick for a decently thick body that can take a good romping on before it needs some fixing.

Any suggestions?

MIG, practice stitch welding

What is stitch welding?

Weld a dot just hot enough to weld the pieces together, then move down a few inches, and do it again, keep doing it till its completely welded

what are you welding exactly? I now i did my cage with mig and was happy with that, until my buddy tig'd a tow point for me.. made mine took like piles of mud.

I'm planning on doing a diamond plate style body. Although I am open to other options. I just like the general look of diamond plate.

Some of the guys at my work stick weld and they make my MIG look like a hunk of junk. And I've gotten pretty good. I've had a few compliments.

Keep practicing but any diamond plate is going to be heavy compared to the original sheet metal on a jeep body (heavy welds easier). send pictures, good luck!

Thanks guys will do! As soon as I save up the funds and start on it I'll be sure to post back. It'll be awhile though. I want to do the lift and bumpers first before I get into the fab project. I'm just tackling one thing at a time as it comes.
