I need clearance Clarence!
I've got a 2003 Wrangler X with a Yakima Bighorn 4 bike rack on it. I'd like to be able to lower the rack and access the back. Unfortunately, my spare is about an inch too low. I thought I could perhaps raise the carrier, but there's not enough metal to drill another hole.
I don't want to spend a ton of money. If someone sees a way to make this work
I'd appreciate the feedback...

Do you have a closer pic in this area?

PS, What's the vector Victor?

Rumack: I won't deceive you, Mr. Striker. We're running out of time.
Ted Striker: Surely there must be something you can do.
Rumack: I'm doing everything I can... and stop calling me Shirley!

And now, back to our regular programming...

Are you looking for a close up of the pivot point on the rack?

The link was great, thanks! Unfortunately, this is one of the few racks that cleared the tire and even fit on the back. Pushing the tire UP 2" is ideal. Pushing it OUT 2" won't work...

Maybe the fix is getting a spare tire dougnut and mounting it on the back???

Seems to me what ya need thar is a longer tube.

Roger, Roger.

They make receiver extensions. I've seen em online. Ill look for a link.

I dig the 1911 sticker. Wife and I both are believers. :)

Basic strap-on extension when every inch counts:

Ohhhh....Double penetrating extension...Kinky:

My idea would be to remove, if it's possible, the plastic (I think?) cap, in the second picture from your first post. Then cut the square tube down just enough to clear the tire. Then replace the cap and fold the carrier back to the upright position and re-drill a new hole for the pin. It's hard to see if it would work from just looking at pictures, but maybe?

I almost forgot,
Elaine Dickinson: There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Vroooom has your answer above... just buy the extension for your receiver and call it a day..... $30 and problem is solved.

I will repost the link for you....

I used this adapter so I could open my tailgate when I was using my winch. It is available from trailer hitch manufactures. This will drop it down and out. GOOGLE 2" receiver adapters.

I bought a 12"x 2" extension at Harbor Freight. They have longer and can be cut shorter.
