JK Wrangler Rubber Hood Bumpers

Hello,
Anyone know how to remove the rubber bumpers on the hood of your jk?

Thought I'd ask before I tried incase I broke something.

Do they just pull off?
Need to replace them - somethings been gnawing on them

And is it a part I can reorder at the dealership?

Thx

armyjk 07-09-2012 02:49 PM

Need to replace them cause -

Had excess white film build up after waxing with Nu Finish (shit product)
Then to get the film residue off - I used peanut butter (worked awesome)

Except, I didn't think ahead that animals like peanut butter.

Washed it off, but somehow they can still smell it and have started to eat the rubber bumpers on the hood of my jk. Bon appetite!

Cudda 07-09-2012 02:54 PM

They should just pull off.

THW 07-09-2012 02:56 PM

Hahahaha sorry to hear it, man, but this is pretty hilarious!!! I guess that's one reason not to use peanut butter!

Squirrel keeps taking off every time I try to catch him going for a lick!!

I might pee around my Jeep to mark my territory!

Always have this option instead.

Just a suggestion rub a little a very light coat of turpentine on them, just enough to make them take the scent. They wont mess with it anymore.

No, no, no! I like the peeing around the Jeep idea! As always, pics or it didn't happen!

Or rat poison. Either or.

armyjk 07-09-2012 05:59 PM

Just gave 'em a big glob of pb in the grass to work on. A little bribe to stay away from my grille. If that doesn't work "I'm gonna catch it in my coat... And smack it with a hammer." Clark Griswold

The Jeep body guys showed me how to put them on, and it was really easy when I knocked one of mine off.

They are very simple design and have no mechanical pieces to unscrew.

They are a basic rubber plug with a knob on the end with a smaller diameter slot that the hood material fits in.

He used a little soapy water on the plug end and did a simple right-hand screw motion of about a 1/2 turn while pushing downward, to get it in.

Hasn't come out a 2nd time.

I'd think grab one firmly with your hand, turn sharply left while pulling upward should do it.

Or slather with more PB and let 'em munch away till it falls out....

And lay off the peanut butter app. PETA may be watching. Some squirrels may be allergic HAR!!!

armyjk 07-09-2012 08:33 PM

more allergic to the business end of my hammer!

armyjk 07-09-2012 08:35 PM

But, thanks - I've found replacement mopar rubber hood stops - so I'll try and pop them out tomorrow.

UPDATE: Peanut Butter is a temporary solution. The white film residue returns overnight.

Don't waste your time with peanut butter!!!

The best way to get Nu Finish Wax residue off the plastic parts on your JK is to order replacement new door handles, new rubber hood bumpers, new front & rear bumpers and new license plate bracket!!!

LMH 07-16-2012 06:13 PM

Sounds like I should stay away from Nu Finish and putting peanut butter on my jeep. I think I will pee around it though to mark it. A bunch of people at work have been asking me, "Hey- is that your Jeep out there in the parking lot?" I've got my eye on them.....:)

armyjk 07-16-2012 06:16 PM

Peanut Butter goes good with bread, NOT with Jeeps!

I bought these...they rock. Hated the look of the big rubber ones. Austin Powers woulda called them "jubblies." :D

Here's a pic of what the Vectors look like (the mounting screws in the center are nickel plated; I sanded mine down and painted em black):

I'm going to get these!

But first-
1) Where can you buy these online?
2) Are they ready to go out of the box? or do I need to sand & paint
(for a Black JK)
3) Can you buy the mini Vector UFOs that replace the footman loop on the hood of your JK
4) How do you get the footman loop off?

(for a Black JK) I sanded and painted only the mounting screw; the larger round part is black (at least the ones I bought...they might come in other colors, idk.)

You're on your own with the footman loop. Haven't messed w/mine.

Yup. Have to buy the gaskets separately, though. Those little suckers ain't cheap...but I really couldn't stand those ugly-ass rubber ones. http://forums.mg-rover.org/images/smilies/fing02.gif

The footman's loop unbolts from the inside of the hood. I had to remove the nubs, footman's loop and washer fluid nozzle when I put the matte black decal on mu hood.

chim-chim7 07-17-2012 08:20 PM

UFO's are a good choice for replacement options. You can also get them with rubber insulators to keep from scratching the paint. I just got some UFO's and some mini UFO's to replace the windshield latch that will never get used.

I wish you had taken a video of the squirrels eating the rubber bumpers
