92 yj electrical/starter problems?
Jeep was running and starting good with no problems. I let it set for awhile to work on it (1 week). I cleaned the engine with a powerwasher and let it dry for several days. (possibly got water on the fuse block that did not have a cover, even though I taped it off). Took the battery out and charged it (has the correct voltage), put it back in, and tried to start it. I turned the key, normal dash lights came on and as I continued to engage the starter, I heard a click and all the dash warning lights went off and stayed off. I checked the fuses in the block under the hood and the fuses inside near the emergency brake and they looked fine. Nothing. Thinking maybe one of the relays needed a reset, I unhooked the battery, re-hooked (is that a word?) back, and went through the process again. Once again the lights came on when I turned the key but when i got to the ignition part of the key turn, one click, all warning lights stayed out, and turning the key back to start, then back, and nothing. No warning lights, nothing. Did this about five times and the same result.

Questions: 1. Could it be a starter relay in the fuse block( the square silver ones across from the fuses? (Are these relays?)) or a maxi fuse?
2. Could it be the starter solenoid?
3. Does the jeep need to"rocked" to get the starter out of a bind?
4. Do I need to have it towed to a shop for diagnosis and pay the big bucks?

All help is appreciated and if you were around where I live, I would buy you a beer for your help.:):):surrender:

First thing i would do is check the connection of the negative battery cable to the engine block. Pull it off and sand/wire brush to bare metal and reconnect. Wouldn't hurt to clean your battery terminals and cable ends at the battery also. Definitely sounds like a bad connection.

yes as stated above, clean and tighten the battery terminals first, second check all the fuses with a dvom or a 12 volt test light. cant tell you how many times i have heard someone say i checked all the fuses and they "looked" good... the moral of the story is just because they look good does not mean they are good

I had a very similar problem which turned out to be the pcm. They cost about $75....just a thought

Thanks guys, it was the ground. It has to be rock solid on the battery post and frame.. This forum is better than service manuals. thanks again.
