are our yj,s becoming the most sought after jeep

saw another one on c.l. for 14,000 dollars, it was bone stock with only around 40,000 miles on it..

i have seen several yj,s that i thought were way over priced lately..

over 10,000 dollars with just minor upgrades

OverkillYJ 07-13-2012 10:39 PM

I love it. I look at that all of the time. I look at all the money I put in mine as money i will get back if i ever decided to sell it. But that ain't happening. LOL I do have my insurance adjusted though for replacement value since most of them I see cost a furtune.

Doesn't matter what the vehicle is, 20+yrs old, 40,000 or less original miles people think they are gold. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay. Might as well start really high and see what you can get. Why ask 5k when people will give away 8k.....Get what I'm sayin?

Xpress 07-13-2012 11:11 PM

Often times people will throw out a ridiculously high price to see if anyone is willing enough to spend that much money for something. There is always someone out there that has more money than brains, and whom doesn't care.

2xs 07-13-2012 11:45 PM

There are only so many CJs out there that arent rusted or rusting away, and all the now Jeeps are FRENCH now...

Sorry, Ill keep my all Ameriacn Jeep (After I do a drivetrain swap to rid myself of that AX5 it will be ALL AMERICAN, like it should have been from day one).

Ibuildembig 07-13-2012 11:45 PM

Its all in who is looking. I sell jeeps to help pay the bills and it seems most people dont want to pay anywhere close to what jeeps are worth. I was offered 25K for the one I am building a few weeks ago and laughed.

As much time and work you have done on that one. I hope you never sell it. You could say it is your crowning achievement. Plus it is a tribute to your dads Jeep right??

BAP 07-14-2012 06:27 AM

yea, your eagle build is awsome...

Wrangler Haven 07-14-2012 09:12 AM

I have talked to many people now in their 30's & 40's who owned YJ's in the 90's when they were teenagers and look back on those days with much nostalgia. Many of them have stated that selling their Wranglers when they went off to college was the biggest mistake they ever made.
Finding a non rusted un-abused YJ is becoming increasingly difficult.

Ibuildembig 07-14-2012 10:16 AM

Just like the CJ's, the YJ's are bringing more and more money each year.

jdeere05 07-14-2012 12:42 PM

i am thinking about buying another yj. Black Betty is my first and she is the family toy, but i love the jeep so much and the simplicity of them i actually want to buy another one and give her a complete restoration and just to enjoy for the future generations...but black betty will stay they toy...lol

sicyj 07-14-2012 04:34 PM

the yjs to me are the best looking jeeps made. the cjs i was never to fond of and the tj models are just.......well.......crappy looking, hey just my opinion. i searched for 2 months for my yj & i must say, its perfect. i stole it for 3500 and the only thing it needs is a top. one thing i noticed is that the yjs are fetching more money then the tjs. i really hate that they took the wrangler interior in 96 and made it look like the sport cherokee. what a mistake that was.

Ibuildembig 07-14-2012 04:36 PM

96?

Me, I've got a cherry, all original, everything works 91 yj renegade I'm willing to let go of.....any takers at a really, really EXORBITANT price?...

Kahuner 07-14-2012 06:21 PM

I don't know about a "YJ being the most desireable Jeep" but I've been told that a car reaches it's maximum depreciation when it's 15 y/o.

Our YJ's are past max depreciation; they're now appreciating!!

Fo shizzle!!

brokeagin 07-14-2012 09:09 PM

Not trying to take anything away from the TJ and newer Jeeps but i was looking for a CJ 7 or a YJ. Due to their simplicity (no ABS, air bags, etc.) they seemed like the last of the true Jeeps. However CJ's all seemed over priced so they got ruled out pretty quickly. I paid 3800.00 for mine and feel like I got a great deal.

Lmao
U lost all credibility at "..96..."
Come on! Even I know that

Jerricho 07-14-2012 09:29 PM

Picked mine up for $1800 8 months ago, wouldn't idle, leaking oil all over the place, with all sorts of electrical problems. I have probably 75 hours into her, running strong now, zero oil leaks, rides smooth, and all the lights plus the radio even work. Pretty sure if I put it in the classifieds around here I could get $4k for it today.

Best part is I really only have about $150 in all the repairs. I know the "What is your time worth argument" but I work on it because I enjoy it, so I don't count that.

OverkillYJ 07-14-2012 09:38 PM

Lmfao! Ha ha ha. I got a late model 95 which is actually a 96, but that comment is funny.

I got one. Manufacture date of Dec 95. Rubber bumpstops on the hood and reinforced gate hinges.

Ibuildembig 07-14-2012 09:47 PM

That's still a 95, the 97s came out in 96

Raoul 07-14-2012 09:47 PM

I know for sure my YJ was one of the most sought after jeeps.
Then I made two payments and they stopped looking for it.

Driller 07-14-2012 10:08 PM

weren't some of the 95 yj's sold overseas as 96 model year jeeps? Driller

busemans 07-14-2012 10:09 PM

there is one for 12k on craigslist here. an 87

BAP 07-14-2012 11:45 PM

some one better hurry up and snatch it up before it hit,s 15,000

sicyj 07-15-2012 01:47 AM

hey laugh at me all ya want. 96, 97, whatever. the point is that the last of the yjs were 95 and keeping up with the crappy tjs & jks, well, i could care less. so if i made a mistake in saying 96, please oh lord, please forgive me, i meant 97, sue me !

BAP 07-15-2012 07:30 AM
