Got a Questions about my 3.73's

Thinking about lifting my 02 TJ Sport with the RE 3.5 superflex. Actually I;m not thinking baout it, I;m going to do it but just have to save up a little more or blow it on the credit card. I'm looking for the Jeep Pro's Advise on this.

I don't want to upgrade my gears right away...so will my 3.73's hold up with the 33" wrangler MTR's I'm planning on getting?

AzTJ 04-05-2008 09:06 PM

Fo sho.... Jack was running 3.73's with 35's and he didn't complain much. :D

Triple88a 04-05-2008 09:13 PM

i have 35s and i'm happy with it.. People say "5th will be useless" and crap like that. I use 5th all the time and still have stock gears.

read my sig for detailed info on my rig.

I run 33's on 3.07's and its does ok, but I've got the 6 spd. It still want be that bad with the 5spd, and like trip said plenty of ppl will chime in to tell you how bad it will be, but if you keep in mind its a jeep and not a sports car, you can definatly live with it. and it's certainly driveable.

Triple88a 04-05-2008 10:38 PM

at 60 mph my rpm is at about 1500-1700rpm

Rawkon 04-05-2008 11:22 PM

you wll be fine, i have 3.73s and 33s still has plenty of power, you will notice a power loss but things like e fans and power adders will help

MrBash 04-06-2008 11:09 AM

DONE!!!! EXCELLENT!! 33'S COMiNG.

Oh wait...I need the money first. So 3.5 inch lift, 33" Wrangler MTR's and I'll be all done upgrading my Jeep......NOT!

If I blow 2 tires on the big bear run, I'm blowing the lift kit and the tires on the credit card. F:flipoff:ck-it

Thanx Guys.:punk:

Eh...I'm not exactly pleased with that setup (what I'm running now) but you can get used to it and it will get you by for a while w/o any problem. Just get ready to down-shift to 4 on every little hill.

So I'm readiong with the Rubicon Express Super Flex 3.5 Kit, I wil need a slip yoke eliminator and a cv drive shaft conversion. So the kit will cost about $1,000 with a good set of shocks, and the labor will be about $550. I wonder how much more it's going to set me back to get the SYE and the CV Drive Shaft conversion installed? What would happen if I don't get that done?

Rawkon 04-06-2008 12:19 PM

I dont have a sye and dshaft, I do want to get the setup put in but its not a must. I just lowered the Tcase an inch. Give DC4wd.com and email for a quote he has good prices. i beleive i paid low 800 for my 3.5supflex trac bar, quick discos, and shocks. also see what northridge4x4.com can do. he has free shipping over 100 bucks.

you though about installing it yourself?? i did mine in a weekend, (lots of beer and took my time) no special tools required.

HHHmmmmmm:confused: Interesting thought. All the mods so far I've done myself but never thought about doing a suspension lift........ I wonder if I can do it?

I did it my self too with nothing but few basic hand tools and the stock jacks from my jeep and the other from an suv (montero sport)

I took it to a shop and had the SYE and CV drive shaft installed. To buy it and install it was around $700 that was parts and labor.
Hope this helps! :wavey:

Your right...the gears are more of a preference. It drives fin with the 3.73. Forget about 5th gear on the freeway going uphill though.

jeeperx2 04-24-2008 08:25 PM

I've been thinking about that RE 3.5 superflex lift myself (w/ 33s). How much did the ride change on the road? Better/worse? Are you running the stock D30/D35 axle setup? I love the way it looks. :punk:

Nope, sure didn't. I ran 3.73's and an auto on 35's for almost 4 years before I just recently tossed a set of used 4.56's in my axles. I thought it was a perfect mix of trail and street with my 4:1. Of course now that I have gears I'll never go back to that, but I don't think you'll be disapointed.

bpowa 04-26-2008 01:15 AM

sis you install a Bl or and sye?

I'm slowing saving money for a new rear axle, gears and some 35's with my current lift. :D
