Auto picture resizing?

Can we turn it off? Most web browsers already have an image resizing feature built into them. Can we leave it the way it was for those that don't like looking at stupid small pictures?

So...which way did you vote?

MR.CLIFFORD 04-06-2008 08:11 PM

I would rather my web browser control image resizing so I can see larger images. 640*480 is really small on my huge freakin monitor.

Dare2BSquare 04-06-2008 08:17 PM

size matters?

Both browsers allow you to auto resize pictures for faster browsing. I'm using firefox 2.0.0.13. This is an option you have to turn on.

skeeter 04-06-2008 09:25 PM

I have a large monitor, I don't need no stinking resizing :p

Enter about:config in Firefox address bar.
Go to browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing
Double click it to change the value to true

So Andy would you like for me just make a flat standard size so that when people try to upload pictures they have to down size them considerably?

MR.CLIFFORD 04-07-2008 05:42 PM

I dunno. My junk is setup that if they upload a full res 1600*1200 image that it goes down in size to fit my monitor. Now even when I post a 800*600 image it down sizes that to 640*480 and makes the image distorted. My personal preference is to view the images as the OP intended. Most do a decent job of resizing their images for ease of viewing on forums.

If you want to cap the file size and image size for images uploaded to your server then that is great as I know how costly bandwidth can be. But since I host my own images I don't feel there should be a resolution limitation. Does that make any sense at all?

1BLKJP 04-07-2008 05:46 PM

Well to be honest I just tried to go look at the settings and I can't. :D can't see any of the actual VB options anymore. :D So we'll have to wait for someone to come around that can.

And now that I've looked around the forum I wasn't even aware that this was going to be put in place. I'll have to find out exactly why this was done.

AzTJ 04-07-2008 05:50 PM

It doesn't bother me at all.

1BLKJP 04-07-2008 07:11 PM

So I've been told that the 640 limit has been moved out to 800. That should be big enough to not resize most image limits that only hosts put on photos. I just looked at some that I have posted and it had removed the image resized caption.

That's a pretty good mix. 640 is too small. Thanks for the help Jack!

I use photobucket to post pics there, the maximum is 1024x768 and it automatically shrinks bigger images to that. The main reason why i use photobucket instead of just post on the forum is because i dont want to waste our bandwidth if i can waste others bandwidth :D
